THEY say you can have too much of a good thing – but after three days at York it’s with a heavy heart that after today’s Ebor that’s it for another year.
The field sizes haven’t always been what we would have liked, but there’s no doubt the Knavesmire has provided plenty of highlights.

Those don’t get much bigger than finding the winner of the week’s big betting race which takes place this afternoon in the shape of the Sky Bet Ebor.
Sweet William promises to be a short priced favourite in the mould of Hasten to Add, a 13-2 shot and massively fancied for Sir Mark Prescott in 1994, Tuning, at 9-2 for Sir Henry Cecil in 1998 and Purple Moon, the last market leader to take the prize when just 7-2 in 2007.
However, I’m slightly worried about the ground for the John & Thady Gosden runner so will take him on.
The one I’m keeping everything crossed for is TASHKHAN, who to be fair is another who might prefer juice as he hardly ever races on a sound surface.
It’s a leap of faith whether he will act on it or not as he’s been a non runner twice on good to firm recently. A few drops of rain are forecast so that would help.
Tashkhan is now in a handicap off 106 having spent most of his career in Group races including when fifth behind Kyprios in the Ascot Gold Cup when on a mark of 115.
A fast gallop at this trip will be ideal for his often closing style and he’s a massive price for a horse with his ability. Obviously we need to get lucky, but at the odds I’ll chance him eachway.
ITV coverage gets under way with the Group 3 Sky Bet And Symphony Group Strensall Stakes over a mile and a furlong.

The Sir Michael Stoute-trained inmate just didn’t finish off his race in the Bonhams Thoroughbred Stakes and was picked off by strong stayer Epictetus.
However, for much of the race he looked a good thing and he can bounce back for Ryan Moore.
There’s the valuable Sky Bet Melrose Handicap over a mile and three quarters next and I’ll risk VAGUELY ROYAL for the Stradivarius team of owner Bjorn Nielsen and trainers John & Thady Gosden.
The son of Galileo has been a relatively short price in all four starts and landed odds of 4-7 in a maiden at Doncaster last time.
That took his rating from 85 to 87 so it wasn’t an incredible performance, but he promises to be much better stepping up to this trip. Robert Havlin is on top.
For my Nap of the day I’m turning to the Group 2 Sky Bet City of York Stakes over seven furlongs.
A decent renewal with plenty of pace to suit a closer. For that reason I’m all over SACRED for William Haggas and Tom Marquand who have had a good week.
The daughter of Exceed and Excel has always had plenty of talent and once ran in the 1000 Guineas behind Mother Earth.
As it happens seven furlongs on fast ground is her ideal trip and with this big field she can cruise behind the pace and come through late.
ITV also show the Sky Bet Constantine Handicap over six furlongs.
FRESH has not been at his best this term but he still ran a cracking fifth in the Wokingham at Royal Ascot and he must have eachway claims for James Fanshawe and Oisin Orr.
He’s dropped from 103 to 101 this term which just gives him a little chance and I like the fact he stays a bit further than this.
Some of his best form is with juice in the ground but he won the International at Ascot on a fast surface so he seems to go on anything.
