Luke Littler, 16, breaks youth title record weeks before World Championship bow

Darts prodigy Luke Littler made World Youth Championship history as he beat Gian van Veen for the title.

The 16-year-old Brit, who's enjoyed a stellar 2023, added another accolade to his promising career on Sunday (November 26) night. He downed Dutchman Van Veen, 21, 6-4 in Minehead.

He averaged just over 102 with seven 180s and a 46% checkout success on route to a victory which at 16, 10 months and five days made him the youngest player to ever win the PDC youth crown.

Speaking after lifting his trophy, the 'Nuke' declared his intention to reach the top 32 "as soon as possible" ahead of making his senior World Championship debut at Ally Pally next month.

Littler will learn who his first-round opponent will be when the draw is made on Monday (November 27) at 4.30pm, with fans able to watch live on Sky Sports.

His latest impressive performance earned him high praise from Wayne Mardle, who took to social media and hailed: "LUKE LITTLER!!! WOW!!! WHAT A GAME!!! The sport is in good hands!"

Those sentiments were echoed by Matthew Edgar, who commented: "The more I see Luke Littler the more I’m convinced he’s the real deal. Lad's a rare talent."

Fans, meanwhile, feared for whoever he gets drawn against. "Rest in peace, whoever draws Luke Littler in the World Championship," joked one, with another quipping: "My deepest sympathies go to whoever draws Luke Littler in the first round tomorrow."

A third predicted: "World champion within five-10 years." While a fourth added: "Man's looking like 30 but has a voice like 14, can't wait to see him on the tour. Amazing player."

After Littler exited the stage Michael Van Gerwen and Luke Humphries put on a show in the Players Championship final. Van Gerwen hit a nine-darter but Humphries continued his fine form with an 11-9 victory.
