Marc Sneyd isn't bothered if Salford are ravaged by injury – the quality stays | The Sun

MARC Sneyd is not overly bothered who lines up alongside him in a Salford shirt, he knows they are good enough.

Take last week, when they were pretty much down to the bare 17 players and put 60 points on Hull FC, at Hull.

And the Red Devils half back wants to make it another horrible day for rock bottom Wakefield, who have not scored a point in their last three matches.

Boss Paul Rowley has a welcome selection headache today, where to fit in returning Danny Addy after eight months out with a torn Achilles.

However, Sneyd believes small is proving beautiful as he said: “As we’ve such a small squad, we’re training together all the time.

“It’s disappointing when you get injuries but our players coming in are very well drilled and really highly skilled people coming in to do a job.

“We don’t need to change anything, which is a massive positive.

“We were down to bare bones at Hull and turned in that performance, the proof’s there. I don’t lose any confidence, no matter who’s playing.

“I know full well whoever comes in is going to do a job and will know exactly how we play. As a senior player, I feel like I should do more but I don’t really need to because of who’s coming in.

“It’s happened before and unfortunately it’ll happen again. Injuries are out of our control. You can sit and dwell on them but there’s no point, just crack on.”

Salford are desperate to put in a performance on home turf after their two wins this season came on the road – Wakefield are just desperate.

But Sneyd is not buying into the scorelines, which have seen Mark Applegarth’s men run in just 24 points in four matches. He knows the potential is there as the focus is on the 14 they conceded last Saturday, not the 60 they scored.

He added: “I don’t think I’ve ever been in that situation but I can imagine it being a not very nice place to be.

“In review, you can look at the positives through the tries you score, they’ve not been able to do that.

“They’ll be coming to us with a lot of desperation but we won’t be taking it for granted. We’re looking at it as a big game. They’ve still got the talent and players who can throw a bit of magic around.

“When it sticks in attack, we can put points on any team but much emphasis has been on our defence. Put in a solid performance, then show what we can do in attack on the back of that.”

Sneyd, 32, notched a personal milestone at his former club as he booted his 1,000th career goal – not that he knew much about it, even when Rowley commented.

He told SunSport: “I had absolutely no idea. Paul came up to me making a joke about, ‘Don’t be taking two just because you needed it.’ I was just looking at him like ‘What are you on about?’

“It’s always nice to get them, isn’t it? And 1,000 takes some doing. I spend a lot of time on my kicking and I take a lot of pride in it but personal ones are more for when you retire really.

“For the time being, I’ll just keep kicking them and doing the best possible for the now situation.”
