Newcastle and Leicester 'interested in Christian Eriksen transfer and could rival Brentford for free agent'

NEWCASTLE UNITED and Leicester City are ready to try and pip Brentford in the chase for Christian Eriksen.

The attacker is determined to play again after being fitted with an ICD (Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator) following his cardiac arrest playing for Denmark at Euro 2020.

The 29-year-old 'doesn't fear' collapsing again despite having 'died for five minutes' last summer.

And he is determined to return to Denmark duty in time for this winter's World Cup in Qatar.

His contract at Inter Milan was terminated last month as footballers with an ICD are banned from playing in Italy.

The device monitors his heart rhythm and sends shocks to the heart if necessary.

He has been training with Swiss Minnows Chiasso in recent weeks to keep up his fitness as a number of clubs plot a swoop for the free agent.

It has emerged that Brentford are ready to offer him a deal until the end of the season and bring the ex-Tottenham man back to the Premier League.

Now The Times state that rivals Newcastle and Leicester are also keen on the star.

And despite Antonio Conte throwing open the door to Eriksen returning to Spurs, they also claim that is ‘not a possible destination’ at the moment.

Conte had said: “It was great to see him on a pitch, to see that he is kicking a ball.

“What happened this summer was very not good, not good, for the people that worked with him, and the people that know him.

“I was scared in that moment. And now, to see him again ready to play football is great news. I think for Christian, the door is always open.”

Brentford remain in talks with Eriksen and have offered him a deal until the end of the season with the option of a further 12 months.

But it seems he and his representatives are ready to weigh-up all of their offers before deciding on his next destination.
