Racehorse caught up in major cocaine sting that saw more than 80kg of Class A drug seized by cops wins on debut

RACEHORSE Whizz Fizz had to deal with more than most youngsters before making his long-awaited track debut.

He was caught up in a huge drugs bust in Argentina before finally being shipped to Singapore to begin his racing career.

While on the plane set to fly to Singapore with five other horses, the jumbo jet was raided.

Cops seized over 80kg of cocaine from the plane at Ezeiza International Airport near Buenos Aires in January last year.

The horses were simply in the wrong place at the wrong time, but it didn't stop the horses from making front pages around the world.

But racing for Brit James Peters, Whizz Fizz managed to hit the headlines for the right reasons with a brilliant debut win at Kranji Racecourse.

He was written off by punters going off 75-1, but the grey rewarded any willing to chance him at huge odds.

Mandrake, another of the horses shipped but who had already raced, has also since won in Singapore and the six are beginning to build a following with punters.

Peters said: "To be honest, I've been left scratching my head with those Argentinian horses.

"They all work well, but that form is not translated on raceday. That's why I was apprehensive about this one as well, as he's also shown us ability on the tracks.

"He had some niggly issues like shin soreness and he was backed off a couple of times. But he's obviously come good really well.

"Whatever he did today, he will improve on, fitness-wise. He's still new and he's a very nice prospect for the stable."

"We got a bit of stick from everyone for what went on.

"I have a WhatsApp group with the owners and there's lots of banter on there.

"It was pinging every two seconds after the race on Sunday and everyone was over the moon. The story has had a happy ending."
