Real Madrid claim Luka Modric will 'finish his career' at Bernabeu to end transfer speculation over 36-year-old icon

REAL MADRID believe Luka Modric will end his career with them as boss Carlo Ancelotti squashed talk of the veteran leaving this summer.

The Croatian midfielder left Tottenham for Real Madrid back in 2012 but will become a free agent in June.

Modric, 36, is wanted by Newcastle United’s new Saudi owners.

Ancelotti said: “Luka Modric will finish his career here at Real Madrid.

The Italian added: “Modric won't have problems to renew the contract – I compare him to Paolo Maldini.”

Modric is expected to renew talks with the LaLiga side over a new one-year extension before the end of the campaign.

He has played 428 times for the club since his arrival a decade ago.
