MANCHESTER UNITED’s rumoured interest in signing Saul Niguez has been given a huge boost with the midfielder reportedly keen on an Atletico Madrid departure.
The LaLiga star is willing to call time on his nine-year spell at the club who are open to selling for a “great offer”, according to Spanish media.
Saul, 26, was among the surprise exclusions from Luis Enrique’s Spain squad for the Euros with the player failing to make the cut ahead of this year’s tournament.
In May it was reported Atletico were open to considering a £40million offer for their wantaway player who made 39 top tier and Champions League appearances last term netting twice.
Spanish newspaper AS believes the price tag would not be too much of a hurdle for the Red Devils who have also been heavily linked with Atletico midfielder Koke.
Saul, who made his debut for Diego Simeone’s side in March 2012, has reportedly been a long-term target for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's club.
The Prem giants, who hope to retain the services of Paul Pogba in a megabucks deal, reportedly tried to sign the Alicante-born player in June 2020.
It is thought United, who finished second in the Prem behind Manchester City last term, will face a fight from their Etihad rivals and Liverpool for Saul’s signature.
And Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain are among the other European giants believed to be keen on the midfielder who signed a nine-year contract with Atletico in 2017.
Saul began his career at the age of 11 in Real Madrid’s Academy in 2006 before switching to Atletico’s youth side in 2008.
