Two University of Northern Colorado men’s basketball players earned All-Big Sky honors on Monday.
Junior guards Bodie Hume and Matt Johnson were named to the All-Big Sky Third Team for their performances this season.
Hume ranked No. 17 in the league for scoring with 13.36 points per game. He also finished in the top 10 for rebounding (No. 7, 6.64 per game), steals (No. 5, 1.50), made 3s per game (No. 5, 1.93) and blocked shots (T7, 1.00).
The Colorado native has recorded this season a career-high 27 points against Idaho State on Dec. 22 and a career-high 11 rebounds against Montana State on Jan. 7.
This is the second time Hume has earned an All-Big Sky team honor, in addition to his Freshman of the Year nod.
Johnson earned his first career All-Big Sky honor after his stellar year, highlighted by the second half of the season.
He, like Hume, finished in the top 20 for scoring and top 15 for multiple other statistical categories.
Johnson finished the regular season, averaging 13.86 points per game (No. 12), 2.85 assists (13) and 2.43 3-pointers (3) per contest. He finished in double figures in 11-of-14 conference matchups, including four 20-point games.
Prior to this year, Johnson was a consistent reserve but earned a regular spot in the starting lineup for the 2020-21 season. He recorded a season high 23 points against Eastern Washington on Jen. 23 and seven rebounds against Montana State on Jan. 9.
UNC will begin the Big Sky Conference Tournament as the No. 8 seed and play No. 9 Sacramento State at 9 a.m. on Wednesday in Boise, Idaho. The Bears did not face the Hornets in the regular season, because of an activity pause after Northern Colorado head coach Steve Smiley tested positive for COVID-19.
