A PUNTER was reduced to tears watching this incredible horse race from Sandown.
Paul Mulrennan pulled off another beautiful ride on the ageless Euchen Glen – although you never would have thought he looked a winner at the start.
To the untrained eye it looks like Callum Shepherd on leader Father Of Jazz has established an insurmountable lead.
The Roger Varian-trained 15-2 shot goes miles clear in the £29,500 Davies Insurance Services Gala Stakes listed contest.
Trailing behind him are 5-4 favourite John Leeper, 10-1 Gloucestershire, 4-1 Fox Tal and, all the way in last, Euchen Glen.
But that was all part of Mulrennan's cunning plan.
He knew Euchen Glen just loves to devour the ground late on at Sandown, relishing the uphill climb to finish – just as he did when a shock 20-1 winner at course and distance in May.
And sure enough, as the race progressed and others pushed harder, the Jim Goldie-trainer superstar breezed into contention.
One by one Mulrennan picked off rivals, eventually cruising past the post in first place.
Regular punters at home knew what was coming watching the action – but there is always the chance a runaway leader won't be caught.

So there was a slight relief – and Mulrennan admitted as much himself – when Euchen Glen prevailed at the end.
The win was enough to reduce one punter to tears, especially given the horse missed all of 2019 with injury only to come back better than ever.

Speaking of the win, Mulrennan said afterwards: "He is just a legend of an old horse.
"He likes it here and the race fell in his lap. Jim’s horses this season are flying. I’ve picked up a good rapport with him. He gives you confidence when you are riding for him just to take a horse out of a race to relax so you have that finish and gallon of petrol left at the end.
"I was happy all the way round but I won’t lie to you before we turned in I’m looking up and he (Father Of Jazz) is at the two and a half pole and I’m thinking ‘he is a fair bit in front of me’.
"But when I’ve given my horse a squeeze I was praying he picked up and he did."
