The New York Yankees made a trade deadline splash by acquiring Texas Rangers outfielder Joey Gallo in a deal made official Thursday.

Gallo offers the Yankees a powerful bat that will be able to smash home runs over the short right-field fence in Yankee Stadium. The 27-year-old is only batting .223 on the season, but has produced 25 home runs, 55 RBIs, and has a slugging percentage of .490 in 95 games in 2021. He will be a solid middle-of-the-order addition in the Bronx.

The Yankees also received reliever Joely Rodriguez in the trade. Rodriguez, 29, has a 5.31 ERA, 1.61 WHIP, 30 strikeouts, and 11 unintentional walks in 27 1/3 innings. He will be used as a depth piece for the Yankees struggling bullpen.

However, general manager Brian Cashman had to move several top prospects to secure the slugger. In exchange for Gallo, he sent Ezequiel Duran, Josh Smith, Trevor Hauver, and Glenn Otto to the Rangers.

Here is a deeper look at what Cashman gave up:

Ezequiel Duran

Duran, 22, was the No. 15 prospect in the Yankees’ farm system. The second baseman was signed out of the Dominican Republic back in 2017 for $10,000, a nice return on investment for the Yanks.

In 67 games with Class A-Advanced Hudson Valley this year, Duran is hitting .290/.374/.533 with 15 doubles, six triples, 12 homers, 48 RBI, 42 runs and 12 stolen bases. After the trade, he is currently ranked as the No. 8 prospect in the Rangers’ system.

Josh Smith

Smith was the Yankees’ second-round pick back in 2019 and signed for $976,700. The 22-year-old shortstop — who originally played third base before suffering a stress reaction to one of his lumbar vertebrae — was the 14th-ranked prospect for the Yankees’ before the season.

He’s bounced from Class A and Class A-Advanced this year. In 39 total games, he has a .324/.448/.641 slash line with 12 doubles, three triples, nine homers, 24 RBI, 17 stolen bases, and 44 runs scored. He is now the No. 7 prospect in his new organization .

Trevor Hauver

Hauver, 22, was a second-round selection by the Bombers in 2020. Originally, he was selected in the 37th round by the Kansas City Royals but ultimately decided to play ball at Arizona State. Mainly a second baseman, he can play anywhere in the outfield and was the No. 23 prospect in the Yankees’ system before being traded.

Hauver spent most of this season in Class A. In 66 games for the Tampa Tarpons, he produced a .288/.445/.498 slash line with 17 doubles, nine homers, and 49 RBI. He is now the No. 19 prospect for the Rangers.

Glenn Otto

The 25-year-old Otto was a fifth-round selection in the 2017 draft. He is a right-handed starting pitcher who has 32 career starts in the minors and was the No. 28-ranked prospect in the Yankees’ system.

The former Rice University Owl has spent time with the Somerset Patriots, the Double-A affiliate for the Yankees, and the Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, the Triple-A affiliate. In 13 outings, he holds a 7-3 record with a 3.33 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 115 strikeouts, and 17 walks in 75 2/3 innings. He is the No. 26 ranked prospect in the Rangers system after the trade.
