‘Who the f*** are you?’ – Man Utd director Darren Fletcher in X-rated row with furious fan during heated Leicester draw

MANCHESTER UNITED technical director and former midfielder Darren Fletcher was involved in an X-rated spat with a fan on Saturday.

The shock incident occurred as the Red Devils suffered another poor result at Old Trafford as they were held to a draw by Leicester City.

The 25-year-old supporter, Jamie Caplan, has given his account of the incident to Manchester Evening News.

He claims he screamed at the United bench in fury after Kelechi Iheanacho scored for the Foxes.

The fan states he was fuming over the lack of effort on display from the players but insisted his words were not aimed specifically at Fletcher.

However, he claims the ex-Scotland international replied: “Who the f*** are you?”

Caplan told the MEN: “He's the one who took offence and turned around and asked me who the f*** I was and to sit down.

“That's when I went back at Fletcher because I took that very personally.

“I then went into a bit of a rage, so he didn't say much then. And then Scott McTominay turned around.

“I couldn't make out what he was saying because I was already walking up the stairs by this point.”

Midfielder McTominay started the game but was replaced by Marcus Rashford ten minutes into the second half moments before Iheanacho opened the scoring.

On the incident with Fletcher, who previously worked as coach under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer before being named United’s first-ever technical director in March 2021, Caplan added: “As a matchgoing fan, I put a lot of money into the club, I go watch them a lot.

“’Where's the f***ing fight? You don't care.’ That's pretty much word-for-word what I said.

“He (Fletcher) didn't like it. But he can't be in denial, he was there. He knows the standards that are required to be top-level.

“He was in a dressing room with Roy Keane and if he turned around to me and say that's a good enough United side then he's a liar and I don't believe him.

“Just look at all the old pros, they all say the same thing, it's just not there, the desire. It isn't there.”

The report also adds that the club "are open to speaking with Jamie to smooth things over" with the season-ticket holder.

Fletcher, 38, spent 20 years as a player at United after progressing through the academy into a first-team regular.

He helped them to win the Premier League five times and to Champions League and Club World Cup joy before departing in 2015 to finish his playing days at West Brom and Stoke City.

The result left United languishing seventh in the Premier League standings, three points off the top four.
