'You're a weird man' – Edwin van der Sar in hilarious tribute to Erik ten Hag as Ajax boss prepares to leave for Man Utd

EDWIN VAN DER SAR paid tribute to Erik ten Hag in hilarious style after the Ajax boss' final home game in charge.

Ajax wrapped up the Eredivisie league title by thrashing Heerenveen 5-0 – Ten Hag's sixth trophy at the club.

Ten Hag is on his way to Manchester United and Ajax chief Van der Sar, who played at Old Trafford, wished his compatriot good luck for the future.

He praised his achievements as Ajax boss and quipped that he could be weird at times – much to the amusement of everyone inside the Amsterdam Arena.

Van der Sar said to Ten Hag: "Erik.. sometimes I thought 'you are a weird man'. But you surpassed all expectations.

"You will leave for a club that is close to my heart. I wish you all the best there. Thank you, Erik ten Hag!"

Ten Hag won the Eredivisie three times with Ajax and was minutes away from guiding the club to the 2019 Champions League final, losing out to Tottenham.

The Dutchman will be tasked with getting United back into the Champions League next season while installing his philosophy into the club – which some fans have termed "Ten Hag-ball".

Signing Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong, who Ten Hag worked with at Ajax, could be key to making that a reality.

United are reportedly 95 per cent likely to sign the Dutchman and could spend between £60-70million on the midfielder.

Ten Hag is said to be plotting a raid of Ajax with winger Antony and goalkeeper Andre Onana also on his wishlist.

The incoming United boss has three years to work his magic but could make big changes straight away.

Ahead of his switch Ten Hag said: "It is a great honour to be appointed manager of Manchester United and I am hugely excited by the challenge ahead.

"I know the history of this great club and the passion of the fans, and I am absolutely determined to develop a team capable of delivering the success they deserve.

"It will be difficult to leave Ajax after these incredible years, and I can assure our fans of my complete commitment and focus on bringing this season to a successful conclusion before I move to Manchester United."
