A Place in the Sun: Couple tell Laura the house is a ‘nightmare’
Channel 4 returned for another edition of A Place in the Sun, with property expert Laura given the job of trying to find the perfect new home away from home for couple Karen and Alastair. The husband-and-wife duo was looking for a slower pace of life and hoping to find it in the Dordogne countryside in France. But, after Laura’s initial selections didn’t all go down so well, one property, in particular, left them making the decision to shun a viewing of the property, with Karen labelling the house a “nightmare.”
Alastair and Karen were excited to move to the picturesque French region, despite the latter having never visited.
But with Alastair having recalled many happy memories in the Dordogne in the past, they were sure it was the place for them.
However, their property search didn’t run entirely smoothly and on one property, they decided not to even go as far as viewing inside the house.
Taking them to the three-bedroom barn, Laura was keen to get their initial thoughts on the property.

Karen replied: “The views are outstanding, really lovely,” with Alastair agreeing: “It’s as stunning as it gets, isn’t it?”
Laura told them: “I wanted to bring you a property, you said it had to have one or the other really.
“Either the pool and you were happy with a bit of work, or to put in the pool in a house that’s perfect.”
Laura revealed she had opted to show them a property with a pool, warning the house would be a bit of a project for the couple.

“People are overlooking you. When you look around there, there seem to be hillwalkers walking past your garden at regular intervals, nope.”
“I’m feeling the same,” Alastair echoed. “There’s a real lack of privacy both with neighbours overlooking you.
“As Karen said, there seems to be some sort of hikers pathway. There are hikers going past every 10 minutes or so.
“I think even if this was perfect inside, it wouldn’t be for us. The view is absolutely stunning but everything else I’m afraid…” he remarked.
Laura interjected: “I don’t want to flog a dead horse, so if this is an outright no, we’ll leave it here,” which the couple agreed to.
She made her dismay over the pair’s decision clear, commenting afterwards: “I’m devastated Alastair and Karen don’t want to look around this property.
“I understand they don’t think it’s private enough for them. I’m still a bit disappointed about their reaction to the last place.”
Luckily, the Karen and Alastair were blown away by Laura’s final offering of the afternoon and had an offer accepted on their new dream home.
A Place in the Sun airs weekdays from 3pm on Channel 4.
