After shocking scenes, is Ryan out of Coronation Street for good?

The residents of Weatherfield aren’t exactly known for being fortunate – from tram crashes and a surprising amount of serial killers for such a small radius to upsetting dog deaths and more – but even by Coronation Street’s standards, Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott) has a tough run of it.

Tonight’s episode ended with a shocking acid attack, with Ryan the victim. Only… it wasn’t even meant for him.

So, what’s next for the poor lad? Is this the tragic end of a tragic time on the street?

Here’s what you need to know.

What happened to Ryan tonight?

It’s gone from bad to worse for Ryan over the past few months.

Last year, after taking part in a robbery at the Bistro, Ryan’s life hit bottom once word got out that he did it in order to claim on the insurance with Debbie (Sue Devaney), which would’ve given him enough cash to finally leave Weatherfield and start the life he always wanted.

If his reputation (and future) being left in tatters wasn’t enough, recently, when two gunmen entered the Bistro, a traumatised Ryan confided in Leanne (Jane Danson) that his life is going nowhere.

And now, in tonight’s episode, we saw Ryan hit with the acid Justin (Andrew Still) intended for Daisy (Charlotte Jordan).

The shocking scenes follow Daisy having had Justin arrested for stalking.

The writing might have always been on the wall. We first met a troubled Justin when Daisy attended the hospital for an appointment. He was sitting in the waiting room and got chatting to her, revealing that his mum was seriously unwell.

Over the past few months, Justin’s behaviour has gradually gotten darker and darker.

Speaking about the troubling scenes, actress Charlotte said, ‘To do something like that, I don’t know how you could even understand it.’

‘It’s so evil and heinous to try and take away someone’s identity, I don’t even know how you could really start to think about something like that.’

Well, Charlotte evaded the heinous act, but Ryan did not.

Is Ryan Connor leaving Coronation Street?

While he had dreams of swapping the cobbles for the clubs and living life as a DJ, Ryan now finds himself with life-changing injuries.

So, is this it for him – an unhappy end for a largely unhappy life?

As it turns out, no! We can reveal that Ryan won’t be leaving the cobbles for good and, actually, his recovery from the horrific acid attack will play out in scenes to come.

Speaking about the long-term effects the attack will have on his character, Ryan Prescott told Metro.co.uk, ‘It’ll change his life forever. It will change the way he interacts with the world and the recovery.

‘The difficulty within the parameters of soap is to show some kind of reality that comes with the longevity of what it means to be an acid attack survivor. The recovery period is so long, if not lifelong.’

Ryan will have permanent scarring and need a skin graft.

The actor will be wearing prosthetics, telling Metro.co.uk, ‘We went into a workshop to have a mold set and we could create a cast of my face and then create pieces which would be layered on and create the scarring.

‘There are different stages of the scarring and the wounds as well, we had to focus on the stages and knowing when they would come in, there is also skin grafts, so many things to consider.’
