In the letter which is posted in two parts on his Instagram page, the 25 signees insist that ‘the descriptions of ‘Rust’ as a chaotic, dangerous, and exploitative workplace are false.’

AceShowbiz -More “Rust” crew members have seemingly spoken up in the wake of allegations of “chaotic” and “dangerous” workplace that might have led to the accidental fatal shooting. On Thursday, December 9, Alec Baldwin shared a letter signed by 25 crew members rejecting the notion that the production was unprofessional.

Through the letter, which was posted in two parts on the actor’s Instagram page, they expressed that they “believe the public narrative surrounding our workplace tragedy to be inadequate and wish to express a more accurate account of our experience.” They added, “The descriptions of ‘Rust’ as a chaotic, dangerous, and exploitative workplace are false and distract from what matters the most: the memory of (DP) Halyna Hutchins, and the need to find modern alternatives to outdated industry firearm and safety practices.”

Defending the production as “professional,” the letter went on to note, “Unfortunately, in the film industry, it is common to work on unprofessional or hectic productions to gain experience and credits. Many of us have worked on those types of productions.” They then insisted, ” ‘Rust’ was not one of them. Rust was professional.”

“We do acknowledge that no set is perfect, and like any production, ‘Rust’ had areas of brilliance and areas that were more challenging,” they added. “While we stand firmly with our unions and strongly support the fight for better working conditions across our industry, we do not feel that this set was a representation of the kind of conditions our unions are fighting against.”

The 25 signees later stressed that “this letter is written on behalf of the cast and crew of the film production, ‘Rust’. It has not been sanctioned or influenced in any way by the producers,” one of which was Alec who was also supposed to star in it.

The letter was signed by crew members from the production’s Accounting, Assistant Directors, Casting, Camera, Art, Props, Special Effects, Electrics, Grips, Costumes, Hair, Makeup, Sound, Locations, Medics, Animal Wranglers, Health and Safety, Transportation, Craft Services, Catering, Stunts, Construction and Production departments.

The accidental shooting on October 21 that caused the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injured director Joel Souza is currently under investigation. Alec, who held the gun which discharged on the set, has been sued by “Rust” gaffer Serge Svetnoy and script supervisor Mamie Mitchell over allegations of an unsafe workplace.
