Most couples make their way to a nice hotel for some alone time on their wedding night, but for Naomi Oquendo, even holding her husband’s hand was forbidden.
Naomi, who is originally from Essex, has attracted headlines after she formed a romantic relationship with Victor Oquendo, a US man currently serving a 24 years sentence for killing two men.
The pair forged a romance when Naomi reached out to Victor as a prospective penpal, and the couple even married during lockdown over Zoom, before they had even met in person.

A month ago, Naomi flew out to Michigan to meet her husband, and the Essex native shared the experience of seeing her partner in the flesh for the first time while appearing recently on ITV’s This Morning programme.
Naturally, the conversation turned to the topic of sex, and Naomi admitted that she may have to wait some time before she can finally become intimate with her new husband.
When asked how long she might need to wait, Naomis responded: “12 years, but I’m hoping for earlier.
“A lot of people ask me, ‘were you able to consummate it when you met? Did they let you go into a little room? I was like, ‘I wish’, no nothing like that, we weren’t even allowed to hold hands over his lap or my lap or anything, it’s very very strict in his State.”
Although the pair weren’t allowed much time alone, Naomi stressed that she had no regrets about her decision when she finally met Victor.
“I’ve never been that nervous in my life. Every single part of my body was shaking, my mouth was even shaking, which I didn’t think you could do,” she recalled.
“It was bizarre because it was a horrible situation to be in, going to prison and having to go through security and being watched by these wardens.

“It’s a very uncomfortable scenario to be in to meet someone for the first time, especially your husband, but as soon as I saw him I was just calm and relaxed.
“I say to people it wasn’t like I was meeting him for the first time, my soul recognised his soul, he is my person and we felt so comfortable together. It was one of the best days of my life.”
