Coronation Street fans in tears as Norris Cole dies doing what he loved best

CORONATION Street fans are in tears after Norris Cole died in tonight’s episode.

The busybody newsagent died of a stroke after actor Malcolm Hebden decided to retire from the soap.

In tonight’s episode Norris reached out to his old friends on the cobbles to reconnect.

Ken and Rita phoned Norris to invite him to the cobbles instead – but the phone was answered by a paramedic.

The pensioners grabbed Mary and raced to the hospital to see their ailing friend.

However once they got there it was tragic news.

Freda told them: “Norris passed away a short while ago.

“I just can’t take it in,” sobbed Rita as Ken wittered on about “the fragility of life”.

Freda explained Norris collapsed holding his telephoto lens trying to catch Claudia Colby having an affair with the retirement home’s chairman Charles.

Rita joked: “I’ll tell you what. He went doing what he enjoyed doing best – snooping and gossiping.”

In a more emotional moment, Rita later said in the pub: “I’m just sad because I’ve lost one of the best friends in my life.”

Viewers were completely devastated by Norris’ death.

One wrote: "RIP Norris Cole."

A second said: "Noooo not Norris"

Another added: "Not Norris 😢"
