CORONATION Street's Kel Allen has revealed that her character is set to leave viewers stunned after finding out the truth about Rick's death.

Next week, Kelly Neelan horrified to learn the police are at County’s new training ground searching for a body.

A body is found on the construction site and Kelly clings to the hope that her dad is still alive.

However, hope breeds misery for Kelly as DS Beckett breaks the news to her that authorities have found Rick's body.

Kelly is beside herself and, utterly bereft, breaks down uncontrollably.

As Kelly begins the grieving process, Gary knows his deepest and darkest secret is about to be unravelled.

In a panic after Kelly admits both of her parents have let her down and she's grateful to have him and Maria, Gary tells his wife he has decided to confess to Rick's murder.

Viewers will see Gary confess to dying Laura.

Speaking about the bombshell news, the actress said: "It is a massive shock to the her she can't believe that Rick's dead, she hadn’t even considered that as an option so she's grieving for the loss of a man that she had already lost but now she knows he is dead and it is Kelly’s dad, how is she going to break the news to her?

"And she is so angry. But you've then also got the fact that she had planned her daughter's future with this man and now he has told her he killed Rick but it was in self defence.

"And now she is questioning the real reasons that Gary took Kelly under his wing, and realises it was motivated by guilt."

But in a shock turnaround, Laura decides to take the fall for Gary and tries to convince the police that she killed Rick.

She explained: "At the forefront her mind is her confession and making sure that Kelly's secure so she is determined to do this right.

"She has got all the information she needs from Gary about the murder to be able to repeat it and make them believe she did it.

"She even knows where the body is buried and how he died.

"It is harder than she thought because the police are sure she is lying as they have had their eye on Gary for this for some time and just needed the proof but here is this women who knows all the detail and wants to take the rap."

The terminally ill mum will then go to court after coming up with a watertight story.

"She is very unwell but she drags herself out of bed and is determined to go to court and face the music," Kel revealed.

"She has perfected her story and she knows she hasn’t got long left, she has nothing to lose."

The shock admission will surely have the residents of Weatherfield gossiping – but Kel admits that her character may be finally showing some signs of redemption after years of neglecting her daughter.

She added: "People are bound to have been shocked to start off as they have wanted Gary to pay but  you've also got people seeing the other side of Gary and the redemption for his character.

"I genuinely hope that people see why she's doing it, which is to secure Kelly's future. I also hope that people see the redemption for Laura, that she is finally doing something good, finally putting her daughter’s needs before her own."

Gary murdered Rick in June, 2019, after the ruthless loan shark wreaked chaos in Coronation Street.
