Coronation Street spoilers: Leanne Battersby breaks down after Nick Tilsley sinks in quicksand

LEANNE Battersby is seen breaking down in tears in Coronation Street this week, shortly after her fiance Nick Tilsley has to fight for his life as he slowly drowns in quicksand.

The devastated mum cries as she gazes down at her engagement ring on Friday night's episode, following Nick's terrifying struggle.

Businessman Nick – who is played by actor Ben Price – is seen desperately sinking in the quagmire after an extended family day out appears to go horribly wrong.

A new trailer, which aired all yesterday morning on ITV, sees Nick sinking into the sand as his nemesis Peter Barlow screams at him to fight to survive, for his partner Leanne Battersby.

"Tell Leanne, I'm sorry," Nick tells Peter as he sinks under water.

But could the soap really be killing off one of its first ever babies to be born on the show 37 years ago?

The shocking scenes come as The Sun on Sunday revealed Alison King is making a cobbles comeback as Carla Connor.

Nick's ex-wife will return to the Street a year after leaving.

Show sources said Alison would return at the end of the year after executive producer Kate Oates begged her to come back.

One told the Sun on Sunday: “Carla is a hugely popular character with viewers, and Kate always felt it was a shame Ali left. So when the opportunity to talk to her came up, she was delighted.

“For a few months now they have been in secret talks and the word among the cast is that Ali has agreed.”

The Sun revealed in 2015 that Alison was set to leave, citing “creative reasons”.

But she later admitted she quit after being “exhausted” by the role. She said: “It’s incredibly hard. A lot of Carla’s stories are high-octane, emotional stuff. Learning it takes up my weekends and it can be exhausting to do.”

She left last May and insisted it was for good. Spokeswomen for Corrie and Alison declined to comment.
