Coronation Street’s Carla star opens up on Chris Gascoyne exit

Coronation Street: The Barlow’s interrogate Peter

Coronation Street’s Carla Connor (played by Alison King) has opened up on how she feels about her co-star Chris Gascoyne leaving the ITV show.

Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) recently found out that he would not be going to prison for the murder of Stephen Reid (Todd Boyce), but has been struggling to come to terms with what he did.

The Coronation Street legend is set to be leaving the cobbles in the coming months, with co-star Alison admitting she “hates” it.

Speaking to Express.co.uk and other press, she expressed: “I hate it when he leaves me, it is horrible but luckily I just hand him over to his normal wife and let her have him for a bit.

“Then he comes back and he can have his on-screen wife back but yeah it never feels like we are far away from each other because we know each other so well now…

“So yeah it is alright, it will be alright it will all come out in the wash.”

Chris recently opened up about his exit story and told Digital Spy: “Well, he has just killed someone so there are so many storylines that can come out of that and so many reasons that he might not be around any more.

“All I will say is I am delighted with my exit storyline. The scripts are superb and I can’t wait to see the reaction to how Peter leaves the street.

“Peter is struggling with his demons. He has always had lots of enemies, but at the end of the day, he is his own worst enemy.

“He is the one that has suffered at his own hands the most emotionally and we can see this starting to happen again. It is a turbulent time ahead.”

As Peter leaves his wife behind, Carla is set to be joined by the arrival of her nephew Bobby Donovan (Jack Carroll).

Bobby is the son of Rob Donovan, who is serving life in prison for the murder of Tina McIntyre (Michelle Keegan).

It becomes apparent that Rob was unaware he had a son until recently, but hadn’t got around to telling Carla.

Bobby arrives in Weatherfield just after Christmas after he’s fallen out with his mum and looking for a place to stay.

It isn’t long until he starts running rings around his Aunty Carla, with the star revealing: “I’m delighted and honoured to be playing a part in the history of the cultural institution that is Coronation Street.

“I hope Bobby brings viewers a lot of laughs in the vein of some of the street’s classic comedy characters.”

Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
