Coronation Street’s Sam Aston comforts wife over loss of baby

Sam and Briony Aston on their baby loss heartbreak

Sam Aston is best known for playing Chesney Brown in Coronation Street but he opened up about the loss of two babies with his wife Briony on Loose Women.

Briony told the panel: “For me, I just very much trusted the process and I guess just thought, ‘This is the way it’s meant to be for me.’

“It’s the way I’ve had an outlook on life in general anyway and my babies will come to me at the right time.”

Briony broke down in tears as she sobbed: “If it’s meant to be.”

Ruth cut in: “And also so hard for you Sam, you’re being very supportive there holding Briony’s hand.

“But you know, you go through it together. It’s Briony that goes through the physical side of that miscarriage but then you’re still breathing. That’s your two babies too.”

Sam and Briony revealed they had suffered two miscarriages in four months in July.

Posting a picture of a pregnancy test kit on her Instagram account, Briony wrote: “This is a difficult thing to share, but in the interest of breaking the taboo, I’m miscarrying again, the second time in four months.

“It’s heartbreaking and it’s unfair, BUT I’m not seeking sympathy, I feel well supported and want others to feel supported too.

“And that’s why I wanted to post this today, because having people you can talk to and receiving comfort from those who have been through something similar makes the world of difference.”

She continued: “We’d told close friends and family about both pregnancies, because I knew that, for me, I would want support from those people if it wasn’t meant to last.

“But I wouldn’t have been so open had I not heard from other women about the babies they lost and their stories.

“So thank you to all the women before me who have shared their stories and talked about their babies, it makes processing this a lot easier, and I don’t feel alone at all.

“In fact I feel the opposite of alone, I feel held and heard and I hope that by continuing these difficult conversations about miscarriage and pregnancy loss we open the door for others who will sadly experience loss too.”

Briony and Sam have two children together, Sonny James, two, and Daisy, one.

Loose Women airs weekdays on ITV at 12.30pm.
