Amid the usual festive tradition of watching the classic Christmas film, The Holiday, it’s likely one fantasy popped into your head (no, it’s nothing to do with Jude Law).
Maybe I should move to a cute little countryside town, just like Cameron Diaz/Amanda Woods, you think to yourself. Perhaps I could wear a chic cream jumper and drink wine.
If this idea stayed with you long after you were done wrapping presents and eating mince pies, we may have the perfect property opportunity for you.
Sadly it’s not the exact cottage where Cameron Diaz’s character stayed, but a cottage in the very village where The Holiday was filmed has landed on the market.
Sat in Shere, in Surrey, the three-bedroom home is up for sale for £1,150,000 through Savills.
And – funnily enough – this house was previously let out to a couple who watched The Holiday and decided to move across the world to live here – so it’s got legit countryside getaway credentials.
Shere was used as the location for many of the classic English country village scenes in the film, and it perfectly fits the bill.
Situated within the Guildford district of Surrey, it’s considered one of the prettiest English towns, and was also used in Four Weddings and a Funeral.
It’s only an hour away from London, so you could commute into the city, or if you want to fully embrace village life there’s all you need within the town, including a bakery, two pubs, and a post office.
The house itself is pretty special, too.
A Grade II listed cottage dating from 1742, it offers 1,599 sq ft of space spread over three floors.
On the ground floor is a plush sitting room, complete with a cosy wood burning stove, plus a generous dining room and a kitchen/breakfast room – all with gorgeous oak flooring.
Go up the stairs and you’ll find the first floor landing, with original pitch pine wall panels, leading to two principal bedrooms and a family bathroom.
Up again is another bedroom and a shower room, too.
In terms of outdoor space, you’ve got a gravel patio to the rear of the house, plus steps leading to a lawn area. There’s also a paved terrace with views to the South Downs, so you can sit and sip your hot chocolate while taking in stunning countryside surroundings.
If you fancy putting in an offer – and we repeat, Jude Law’s character, along with Mr Napkin Head, is not included – you can find out more through Savills.
