David Tennant’s ‘miracle escape’ after he’s almost hit by car on set

David Tennant may play an immortal demon on Good Omens but he's revealed that he came close to death whilst filming the second series.

The Doctor Who star said "it's a miracle" he wasn't "hit by a car" on the Good Omens set after struggling to see thanks to his character's costume.

The 52-year-old, who returns as Crowley for season 2 of the fantasy comedy, said that the demon's snake-eyed contact lenses make acting "quite a challenge".

"It seems like night when it is day – and then if I add the dark glasses – I basically fumble around."

"In the first scene we shot this season, I had to cross the road which we had populated with moving cars and hundreds of supporting artists to recreate busy Soho – and I couldn’t see a thing," he added.

“It’s a miracle I was not hit by a car – maybe the mojo of Crowley just stopped them! It’s a small price to pay for such a delicious character.”

David stars alongside Michael Sheen on the Prime Video series, which follows angel Aziraphale and demon Crowley as they run a bookshop in Soho together, having recently been fired from Heaven and Hell.

Speaking about Michael's Aziraphale costume, David said: "Whereas Aziraphale is rather frozen in time, wearing the same clothes for hundreds of years, Crowley likes to embrace the moment – he is quite rock and rock – and sometimes I get to wear the most ludicrous outfits I would never dare to wear in real life."

However, series two begins with their old boss Gabriel (Jon Hamm ) turning up at their door stark naked.

Speaking about his season two entrance, Jon Hamm revealed that he found it hilarious.

"It was certainly a striking entrance but it was funny," he said. "Honestly this was such a great place to start for the new story of Gabriel and how he has changed this season."

Miranda Richardson also returns for series two, however this time she's playing new character Shax, a sharply-dressed demon who replaces Crowley as Hell's Representative on Earth. In fact, the BAFTA winner found her new costume rather uncomfortable to wear.

"The point shoulder pads were like my very own social distancing tool but wearing heels after living in trainers for lockdown was torture," she adds.

They'll be appearing in the Prime Video show alongside its star-studded cast, featuring Nina Sosanya, Derek Jacobi, Doon Mackichan and other British talent.
