Series 11 of Death in Paradise saw the introduction of two new characters, trainee police officer Marlon Pryce (played by Tahj Miles) and Sergeant Naomi Thomas (Shantol Jackson). The duo didn’t seem to get on at first because of their differing working methods. While Naomi was eager to impress DCI Neville Parker (Ralf Little), Marlon had more of a laid back approach to policing.

It also didn’t take long for Naomi to figure out Marlon had a criminal past after he revealed he knew the best way to pick a lock.

The Saint Marie police force were unsure about Marlon when he joined the team as he’d been arrested before by Dwayne Myers (Danny John-Jules) for stealing.

However, Commissioner Selwyn Patterson (Don Warrington) saw something in the youngster and decided to recruit him as a trainee officer as part of a rehabilitation program.

Marlon is adamant about not being sent back to prison, but could be tempted back to his old life?

Speaking about what Selwyn sees in Marlon, actor Don said: “He sees a young man with huge potential, who could go off the rails if he’s not taken in hand.

“In a gentle way. He’s obviously intelligent, streetwise.

“He knows how things work and knows the lowdown and underbelly of the island.

“I think Selwyn thinks if he can turn that around, then what an advantage, because he can get to places that no one else can get to because of the life he’s led.”

Tahj continued: “So, I think he sees him, eventually, as an asset.

“He needs to mark off the rough corners from him and straighten him up with the law and be careful not to bend it. But I think he sees real potential in him.”

Despite trying to stay on the right side of the law, the Marlon star teased he could be swayed back to a life of crime.

“We don’t know do we?” Tahj admitted. “But this is life. He could slip, come back a bit, slip back altogether or not.”

The actor added: “It remains to be seen. I believe he will not, but you never know.”

If Marlon turns his back on Neville and Naomi to return to crime, will he end up leaving the island rather than getting arrested?

During last Friday’s episode, Ralf and Selwyn were eager to find a replacement for Florence Cassell (Josephine Jobert) after she decided to leave Saint Marie.

After taking part in a dangerous undercover operation and almost getting shot, Florence made the emotional decision to leave.

Selwyn explained to the team he’s already found a new member for their team.

However, little did he know, Naomi was keen to progress and really wanted the position.

After encouragement from Marlon, Naomi decided to come clean and tell Neville she wanted Florence’s old job.

Luckily, Neville managed to catch the Commissioner before he drove off.

But, will the duo end up giving Naomi a chance to prove herself as a detective?

Death in Paradise airs on Friday at 9pm on BBC One.
