EASTENDERS viewers have been left in shock as Halfway was confirmed to be gay – when Ben Mitchell confronted him over his sexuality – and fans are predict romance.
The former solider – who is played by actor Tony Clay in the BBC soap – has been seen to be hiding a secret for more than a year and has been visible uncomfortable in his relationship with girlfriend Whitney Dean.
And tonight viewers finally got answers that confirmed he had been hiding a part of his sexuality – something Ben Mitchell recognised and exploited to his own advantage.
After selling him a stolen van and ripping him off, a furious Halfway went over to confront Ben and the pair clashed.
But as he shoved him up against a wall and held his face next to Ben's and looked at his lips, Ben realised what Halfway had been so desperate to keep hidden.
Taking an over dramatic sniff, he said: "I smell queer. And suddenly it all falls into place. I've been there myself, you like blokes.
"So what? You like blokes, you like girls, I guess that's why they call you Halfway."
He added: "I bet you loved the army though mate, same as me in prison.
"All them hotties having communal showers, all that pent up testosterone, I bet you were very popular."
But realising his secret was out, Halfway punched Ben to the floor but it only encouraged the murderer.

He was then seen breaking down as Whitney telling him she wasn't used to being with someone who wasn't pretending to be something he wasn't overplayed in his head, as did Ben sniffing him out.
