GMB viewers fume as Ed Balls cuts off MP
Ed Balls and Charlotte Hawkins returned to screens to present the latest instalment of Good Morning Britain.
When Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, Mel Stride appeared on the show, viewers started kicking off at Ed for “constantly interrupting” the Conservative politician.
Taking to Twitter, @RFox55 fumed: “#GMB constantly interrupting their guests. Time ITV took it off air.”
Sue raged: “Shut up Ed, let him speak #gmb,” while Maralyn said: “How on earth is Ed Balls a presenter on #gmb?”
Carla remarked: “Stop butting in presenters. Ed and his rambling… When Ed was a minister… How many times do we hear that? Back in the dinosaur age.”
Henry added: “@GMB goodness what a terrible interview with #melstride. Constant interruptions from the presenters @CharlotteHawkns and in my day @edballs. Really stops the guest from being able to answer a single question.” (sic)
Meanwhile, Clara backed Ed and said: “Ed Balls: ‘No I’m not moving on’ when Mel Stride attempts to avoid WhatsApp questions! Bland Mel Stride looking like a proper div!”
@DOPreston penned: “Another Tory MP who can’t answer a simple yes or no question. #GMB.”

During the interview, Stride was probed in the wake of Downing Street denying accusations of a cover-up over the release of Boris Johnson’s WhatsApp messages to the Covid inquiry.
“We have a deadline of 4pm tomorrow and all I am saying is I don’t want to prejudge where that will land and we really need to see where we are at that point,” Stride said.
Balls cut in: “Just to give you some questions that you can answer. To be fair to you, you’ve only been a Cabinet minister for a short period of time…”
Balls interrupted again when he demanded to know if the politician was part of a WhatsApp group with civil servants in his department.

As the MP scrambled for an answer, Balls cut in yet again, telling him: “I’m not moving on, I’m going to ask you this particular question.”
Balls continued to speak over the guest, making it hard to understand either of their points.
“It’s very strange you won’t tell us if you’re part of a WhatsApp group with civil servants, why won’t you tell us?” Balls probed.
“All I am saying is I use a variety of different ways of communicating,” Stride explained.
Good Morning Britain airs on weekdays between 6am and 9am on ITV and ITVX.
