Marcus (played by Darcy Grey) made his entrance into Emmerdale as the long-lost son of former villain, Pierce Harris (Jonathan Wrather), and the only people he has met so far are Rhona Goskirk (Zoe Henry) and Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick). Following the news his father had passed away, the heartthrob made his exit from the ITV soap and some may have believed this was the last they were going to see of him. However, the bosses behind the weeknight serial drama have promised a lot more drama to come from the newcomer and have confirmed a romance will be on the cards but could this be with Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb)?
At the moment, Mackenzie is enjoying a relationship with Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins), who has just become the new owner of the Woolpack.
This romance means everything to him and this was clear when Vanessa returned to the village and his partner seemed interested in getting back with her ex-fiancé.
Charity has assured the troublesome character they are going to be fine and solidified this by making things official between them.
She might have thought because of the way he acted around Vanessa, he would never sway too far away from her, but she could be proven very wrong.
As he catches a glimpse of Marcus in the village, Mackenzie could begin to realise he has an attraction to the handsome stranger.
When Mackenzie first arrived in the village back in 2020, many thought he was gay or bisexual because of the way he flirted with Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller).
For a few months, viewers were left wondering if they were going to become a couple following Robert Sugden’s (Ryan Hawley) exit from the show in 2019.
Unfortunately, Mackenzie’s romance with Charity began shortly after all of this and it wasn’t too long before the rumours were quashed about a new gay romance.
Though scriptwriters could have been waiting for Marcus’ arrival before making fans and Mackenzie question his sexuality again.
With Aaron no longer living in the village, there is no gay couple and so Marcus’ introduction could be the perfect time for a new same-sex romance.
Marcus will be involved with one villager
Jane Hudson
Speaking with Express.co.uk and other media, executive producer Jane Hudson teased a romance on the cards for the newcomer.
The show boss said: “We will have to wait and see whether Marcus is a chip off the old block or whether he’s the polar opposite of Pierce.
“I will say that he is going to be involved with one of our villagers so watch this space as a new romance blossoms.”
The actor who plays Marcus, Darcy, has also dropped some hints about a romance for his alter-ego but failed to disclose who it could be with.
He told Express.co.uk and other publications: “He is such an open book and it could literally go anywhere.”
“In my brain, I have sort of thought of him as a Gemini. He wears two faces; he’s got his Marcus theme face and he’s got this real [personality] under this face,” he continued.
Darcy added: “How much he reveals and what path he chooses is down to the writers and they’ve done a fantastic job so far.
“I’m excited to see where he goes,” the newcomer stated so could his character be someone who will lure Mackenzie away from Charity when he realises there is an attraction there?
Viewers of the show have been extremely supportive of same-sex couples in the past as they were behind Aaron and Robert and Charity and Vanessa before they both went their separate ways.
If Mackenzie did embark on an affair with Marcus, this would allow Charity to plead with Vanessa to take her back.

Following his arrival into the village as Mackenzie, the actor who plays him, Lawrence, has addressed whether his character was gay.
The soap star said: “It’s interesting, as Sam [Dingle] asked him, ‘Are you gay?’ and Mack said, ‘I can be whatever I want to be’, so he’s not really anything at the moment.
“I don’t think the writers are going down a route of Mack’s straight, bisexual or gay, as I think he’s just free.
“He’s just very in-the-moment. The way I’ve been playing it thus far, is that Mack would flirt with a lamppost to get to the next point!
“I think Aaron did fancy Mack in an, ‘Oh I shouldn’t… but I do’ kind of way, and I think Mack knew that and enjoyed the attention,” he told Inside Soap Magazine.
Taking to Twitter, viewers of the show have been sharing their thoughts on Charity and Mackenzie’s current relationship status.
Kezza posted on the social media platform: “I’m seriously banking on a #Vanity Reunion but until then Charity & Mackenzie will do.”
Alan added: “I really love how developed Mackenzie has become as a character. I do wish we would explore his past more though. #Emmerdale.”
Amy wrote: “Not Charity shouting after Vanessa while Mackenzie is literally laying on the ground in front of her. Is it time for the reunion yet?”
Dandy Love remarked: “I’m supposed to feel sorry for Mackenzie but I really don’t. #Emmerdale,” but will the troublemaker fined a new lover in Marcus?
Emmerdale currently airs weekdays at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode airing on Thursdays at 8pm.
