In scenes that aired on Monday night’s Emmerdale, Brenda Walker (played by Lesley Dunlop) continued to accuse Faith Dingle (Sally Dexter) of stealing her brooch. After Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) overheard the entire conversation between the ITV soap pair, he went on a mission to clear Faith’s name as he knew the real thief was Mack (Lawrence Robb). However, things took an expected turn when Aaron stole back the brooch and just when he was about to return it, he got attacked by Eric Pollard (Chris Chittell) who thought he was trying to steal something from his barn.
Despite the tense episode, viewers seemed to be more distracted by vicar Harriet’s return, with many questioning why she was suddenly back in the village.
Taking to Twitter, one baffled viewer penned: “Harriet’s back.”
Another wrote: “Harriet’s now sane all of a sudden.”
A third added: “IT’S HARRIET! Haven’t seen her in yonks.”
“Harriet?! Where the hell did you rock up from?” questioned a fourth puzzled ITV viewer.
A fifth quizzed: “Harriet the crazed vicar is back?”
“I give Harriet a week and she will be back in the cellar sulking,” another commented.
The last viewers saw of Harriet was when she locked herself in her cellar to repent for her sins
The ex-copper struggled to forgive herself after she helped Dawn Taylor (Olivia Bromley) cover up DI Malone’s (Mark Womack) death.
Will Taylor (Dean Andrews) went on to tell the villagers that Harriet had gone on a church retreat, when in fact she had locked herself in the cellar.
However, during tonight’s instalment, Harriet popped up in the pub where she spoke with the new village vicar, Charles Anderson (Kevin Mathurin).
“Sorry I’m late,” Harriet began as she apologised to Charles.
“Can I buy you a drink?” he replied as she sat down.
He continued: “I hope I’ve not compromised you asking your police contact to trace that number I gave you.”
Harriet answered: “No, it’s fine. You’ve helped me in some tough times so I owe you a few favours.
“It’s not good news though. It’s a pay-as-you-go number.
“There’s no way of tracing it, I’m afraid.”
“Is it someone important?” Harriet went on to ask.
With a disappointed look on his face, Charles continued: “A blast from the past I was hoping to track down.
“An address would have been great, but I guess it’s not meant to be.”
Is Harriet back in the village to help Charles? And is he aware of her dark past?
Emmerdale airs daily at 7pm on ITV.
