Emmerdale spoilers: Liv shocked as mum Sandra returns | The Sun

LIV Flaherty has finally found love and happiness after months of hardship, which included a stint in prison.

But in another Emmerdale twist, she's set to face with the surprise return of her mother Sandra – why is she back?



Life in the Dales has been particularly cruel for Liv Flaherty (portrayed by Isobel Steele).

After coming out as asexual, the character struggled with her alcohol addiction.

Things only got worse for her when she was accused of Ben Tucker's murder for which serial killer Meena Jutla was actually responsible.

Liv was thrown behind bars and lost the support of many village residents including her brother Aaron who failed to believe she was innocent.

Since she was released, however, things began looking up and Liv tied the knot with boyfriend Vinny Dingle (Bradley Johnson).

But in upcoming scenes of the Yorkshire-based soap, Liv is stunned when her mother Sandra Flaherty shows up in the titular village.

Upon her return, Sandra claims she's seeking help with her own reliance on alcohol.

Is Liv really in the best place to help?

Could Sandra be lying about her motives to get back in touch with her daughter?

Actress Joanne Mitchell will be reprising her role after last been seen in the Dales in June, 2021.

She took on the role following Janet Bamford's exit from the soap, the second actress to portray the character after original Sandra Flaherty star Christine Brennan.

In May, 2021, Sandra and Liv reunited at a caravan park in Wales when the latter's struggled with her drinking problem and wanted to get away from her family in the village.

The pair proceeded to drink and party together for two weeks but Sandra panicked when her daughter had a seizure in front of her.

Aaron had tracked Liv down and was able to explain to Sandra that she had epilepsy.

Realising that she was not fit to take care of Liv, she asked Aaron to take her back to the village with him and Sandra hasn't been seen since.

Liv's life drastically changed since and she has been able to cut back on her drinking successfully.
