Fleur East broke down in tears as she explained her Strictly Come Dancing stint will be in honour of her late father.
The X Factor star was announced as a Strictly 2022 contestant this morning (August 11) and she then appeared on ITV's Lorraine to discuss the show.
Speaking to host Ranvir Singh, Fleur, 34, said she hopes to dance to some of her own tracks and became emotional as she explained the reason why.
She said: “I hope I get to dance to some of my songs… for me it’s quite emotional. My dad who passed away in 2020, Strictly was his favourite show.”
Getting emotional, she added: “I’m going to be doing it for him. I’m just gutted he can’t see me do it, but I’m going to keep him in mind during the show… I’m excited, my family, just for that reason, will be buzzing.
“I wasn’t expecting to get this emotional about it," Fleur said, as she wiped away tears.
The singer also revealed she’s looking forward to doing the Cha-Cha-Cha as she said: “I know it’s speedy and Latin vibes, so I’m looking forward to that!”
As she has dance experience from performing on stage and being on X Factor in the past, Fleur also admitted she’s feeling the pressure of being expected to do well.
The singer, who was recently seen recovering quickly after tumbling out of a cab at a Pride event, was revealed today as the 12th contestant who will be dancing their way on to our screens this autumn and hoping to bag the Glitterball trophy.
She's joining the likes of Loose Women star Kaye Adams, Britain's Got Talent's Molly Rainford and Coronation Street star Kym Marsh.
Sharing her excitement at the news, Fleur said: "I’m equally nervous and thrilled to be part of this year’s Strictly line up."
Fleur's decision to sign up for Strictly was also announced on the show's Instagram, where many of her fans shared their joy.
One person said: "That's the Winner right there," and another agreed: "I call it now… she will win it!!"
A third added: "She is going to be brilliant however be interesting to see her doing ballroom [red heart emoji] can’t wait x."
Fleur also revealed to Ranvir that her husband of 12 years, Marcel Badiane-Robin, is excited for her to be on the show.
She said: “He is so excited. Marcel cannot wait for me to do this. He’s like, ‘Right let’s go, let’s get you focused.’ He’s going to be like my coach at home.”
