GMB viewers ‘switch off’ as they fume over ‘excessive’ Olympics coverage

Good Morning Britain viewers have been left frustrated over the ongoing Olympics coverage on the breakfast programme, as some say it's prioritising too much of the sports coverage over chats with MPs.

The Olympic Games in Tokyo will soon come to a close, with some GMB fans will revel in as they have claimed ITV is spending too much time documenting athlete's family interviews.

The programme has dedicated Thursday's early morning coverage to speaking to family members who have won medals at the games.

But some viewers have complained about the extent of the Olympics coverage, saying albeit necessary, the morning show is neglecting other issues such as the coronavirus pandemic.

Taking to Twitter, one wrote: "I suppose there’s very little else going on, is there? See also…..emptying supermarket shelves, shortage of HGV drivers, shortage of frontline NHS staff, Tory corruption, rising Covid deaths, etc etc. #GMB."

Another said: "This guy seems appropriate as he won gold too but the constant interviews this week has been ridiculous, they've prioritised them over having a government minister on #gmb."

While a third penned: "#GMB #GoodMorningBritain These #OlympicGames related interviews…"

A fourth tweeted: "FFS another day all about the Olympics #gmb.

"GMB, is there any news other than the olympics? Some of us are not interested in the coverage, or an interview with someone who knew someone else who’s family member’s former room mate watched someone win a medal," someone else posted.

Another claimed they had switched channels due to the Olympics focused coverage, and voiced: "Getting really bored with this excessive coverage on the programme, turned over yet again!!!"

Presenters Sean Fletcher and Ranvir Singh spoke to some Team GB members and their families, which included Team GB champion Liam Heath, who claimed bronze in the sprint canoe final.

His family also joined the interview, and his father commented that watching from home was much more nerve-wracking than watching in person.

Liam thanked his family for supporting him, and said: "I can't wait to get back home and give everyone a hug."

His family also joined the interview, with his father revealing that watching from home was much more nerve-wracking than watching in person.

Following this interview, the hosts also chatted to the father of Team GB gold medallist Eilidh McIntyre.

This comes after Ranvir was left feeling flustered after she forgot about a guest on a video call in an awkward on-air blunder.

She and co-host Sean Fletcher had Dr Amir Khan, Lord Jeffrey Archer, and Miatta Fahnbulleh in the studio with them today, with Olympic silver medallist Roger Black dialling in from home via video.

Ten minutes into the interview, Ranvir said: "Let's bring Roger Black in as well… The problem, Roger Black, with not being in the studio is that we don't see your lovely face the entire time.

"And then somebody in our ear goes: 'Roger is still here', so I'm terribly sorry if you put your hand up at any point during that – we couldn't see you!"

GMB airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
