Home And Away's Sam Atwell has made quite the transformation since his shock exit from the soap 14 years ago.
The actor, 42, played Kane Phillips on the show between 2001 and 2009 and had long blond hair and a baby face on screen. Now, he's looking quite different- with a shaved head and beard.
On Home And Away, Kane was embroiled in some big storylines. The most controversial was when the character sexually assaulted Dani (Tammin Sursock), sister of Kirsty Sutherland (Christie Hayes).
Kirsty began secretly dating Kane and married him two years later, despite the attack. Speaking to Digital Spy in 2019, Kirsty said she doesn't believe a storyline like that would work these days. I don't think they would be getting away with something like that in this day and age," she said.
"Hell no. I can't imagine a lot of that stuff going down now – not at all. It wasn't even that long ago, but I look back on storylines that we did on Home and Away and I think: 'That would never be okay now!'"
Sam left the soap in 2009 when his character realised his wife no longer loved him and he went to his new job alone.
Nowadays, Sam works on Fair City, an Irish soap, as a producer and is based in Dublin. In 2015, speaking to ITFN, he revealed how wife Alison McGirr had helped him get the job.
He explained: ‘This all came together because of my wife. She works here and I asked how I would go about getting into writing over here.
"She took my CV and gave it to Brigie (de Courcy – Executive Producer) so I met with Brigie and she said if I were interested in working in ‘Fair City’, they were looking for directors who could direct multi-cam so I took that and then this job became available so I jumped into it."
He's also appeared in an episode of the show, playing Barbie Man. But he's convinced that Irish viewers probably don't remember him from Home And Away.
Speaking to the Irish Sun, he said: ""We'll see if they remember [me from Home and Away]," he said. "It was a different era, a different beard as well.
"I don't know if I was ever a heartthrob, I think I was the bad boy. It was really fun."
At the time, Sam was subject to a few nasty comments about his receding hairline and his age. But he admitted that now he's made of tougher stuff and can handle comments like that.
Nowadays, Sam takes to his social media to share snaps of what he's up to now. One cute snap showed him and his dog together in Dublin.
He wrote: "Summer in Dublin. We had an ice cream." Christie Hayes, another former Home And Away star, wrote: "Can't handle the cuteness!"
Fans also commented on his new look in another photo, describing him as a 'total bushranger.' Another said: "There's a bushranger film in you yet."
