Dame Barbara Windsor reportedly kept her fellow EastEnders actors in check as she took charge on set, including her friend and soap icon June Brown.
Executive producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins previously recalled a feud between the two titans as June expressed her disgust at the scriptwriters.
She reportedly shouted at them through her dressing room window: “Your storylines are s***!”
Dominic then said that the Peggy Mitchell actress “grabbed her” and “brought her upstairs” to “apologise” to the writers.
Barbara also put Samantha Womack and Rita Simons, who played Ronnie and Roxy Mitchell, in their place whilst on set.
She reportedly scolded them for wearing Ugg boots behind the Queen Vic’s bar, even though viewers wouldn’t be able to see them upon recording.
June spoke about Barbara upon her death in 2020 and paid homage to her old friend.
The Dot Cotton actress, who has died aged 95, said: “While I’m still here, she’ll always be alive in my mind.”
June passed away 4 April 2022 aged 95-years-old and EastEnders have released a statement on her death.
The official EastEnders Press Twitter account said: “We are deeply saddened to announce that our beloved June Brown, OBE, MBE sadly passed away last night.”
They continued: "There are not enough words to describe how much June was loved and adored by everyone at EastEnders. Her loving warmth, wit and great humour will never be forgotten."
The account went on to say that she "created one of the most iconic characters in Dot Cotton" not just in soap but also "in British television".
She appeared in a whopping 2,884 episodes and they called her the creator of some of EastEnders "finest moments".
They sent their "love and deepest sympathies" to her family and friends.
