A cloud has been hanging over the preparations for Jai (Chris Bisson) and Laurel (Charlotte Bellamy)’s wedding in Emmerdale almost from the moment they first got engaged.
Jai’s first task was to find his divorce papers confirming the end of his marriage to Megan Macey, and as he hunted for the papers he came across an adoption certificate that revealed he isn’t the biological son of Rishi Sharma (Bhasker Patel), as he’d believed for the whole of his 47 years of life.
Since then, Rishi has told Jai part of the truth. He said that Jai’s mother, Georgia (Lin Blakley), is his biological mother but she was pregnant with Jai when Rishi met her. He decided to adopt Jai as his own son and has brought him up since.
What he still hasn’t revealed is the identity of Jai’s father, and why he kept the whole thing such a closely-guarded secret for so many years, but all of this is set to come out in spectacular fashion at Laurel and Jai’s wedding.

The first shock for Jai is seeing Georgia arriving in the village unexpectedly by taxi. He’s angry with her as much as he is with Rishi for keeping the secret about his adoption, so he tells her to go back home.
The next day it’s the wedding, and it starts off as everything Jai has ever dreamed of as Laurel appears, looking gorgeous in her vintage-look wedding dress.
Moments later the mood changes when Rishi and Georgia appear, and Rishi has something he wants to say. Jai is stunned when Rishi reveals the identity of his biological father.
It’s a shocking revelation and Jai struggles to process what he’s just been told. As tensions rise a heated argument erupts between Jai, Rishi and Georgia and Rishi storms out.
With the wedding ceremony imminent, Jai tells Georgia he wants her to be at the church, and says Rishi is also welcome to come. Georgia tries to message Rishi, but as she waits in the church it looks like he’s not going to show up.
Will Rishi get to the church on time? And will Jai and Laurel’s wedding happen without any further hitches?
Most intriguingly of all – who is Jai’s biological father?
‘He is feeling excited about the wedding and he’s also feeling anxious’, Chris Bisson told us.
‘He’s wondering whether his dad will actually turn up to see him get married, which he desperately wants.
They’ve had a big fall-out but now the secret is out who his real dad is. He’s still coming to terms with it, he’s trying to process it, but at least he knows the truth and his mum makes him realise that Rishi has always looked after him like a son and has loved him and cared for him.
‘It’s made him realise that he needs his dad there and he’ll regret it if he’s not there otherwise. They both will.’
