Louise Redknapp was a finalist in 2016’s Strictly Come Dancing after waltzing her way through the competition with partner Kevin Clifton. However, in her new book, You’ve Got This, the former Eternal pop star admitted she would warn her younger self not to sign up to the BBC competition if she could.

Her appearance on Strictly reignited Louise’s passion for performing after her career took a backseat while raising her two sons Charley and Beau with then-husband Jamie Redknapp.

Despite the show sparking Louise’s return to the spotlight, she revealed she wished she hadn’t done Strictly in the first place.

Reflecting on if she could go back to 2016 when she agreed to the show, Louise explained why she would say no.

She wrote: “Would I have done that show again if I had the chance? No. It all felt like a circus.

“As much as I appreciated everything that came out of the opportunity, the bad probably out-weighs the good.

“But, of course, it is easy to see that with the benefit of hindsight.”

Jamie and Louise split soon after her appearance on Strictly but the pop star was quick to deny the infamous ‘curse’ was to blame.

In her new book, she claimed the couples are rarely alone on the show leaving little chance of passion forming between the pairs.

“I used to spend my rehearsals surrounded by at least three other people, feeling a bit sick and stressed because I thought I didn’t know what I was doing,” she said.

“So no, it’s not hours of sexy tango routines with just the two of you; far from it.

Louise detailed the several production staff who would be with her and Kevin for the majority of training.

A cameraman was often on hand to catch footage for Strictly spin-off It Takes Two and the Strictly teasers.

Although many Strictly fans blame the show for splitting Jamie and Louise apart, the former pop star admits heartbreak was bubbling under the surface for years.

During a family trip abroad, one of Louise’s dogs died but the mum-of-two kept her grief hidden to avoid upsetting her husband and children.

Louise confessed to “crying uncontrollably” on her own while putting on a brave face for her two sons.

She added: “It felt like I was crying about something much bigger, even though I didn’t know what it was.

“I could never put my finger on it, I just felt so awful and down.

“Looking back now, I think I was quite depressed, and I can recognise that anxiety was really starting to take over.”

Strictly Come Dancing returns to BBC One later this year. You’ve Got This: And Other Things I Wish I Had Known is available to buy now.
