Part two of the supernatural comedy-drama series Lucifer has got fans talking as the latest season just dropped on Netflix. However, it was the season finale that surprised fans the most and now many are waiting with bated breath to see how this heavenly change will be explored in season six.

WARNING: Spoilers for Lucifer season 5B below.

The hit Netflix series Lucifer has been insanely popular since it moved to the streaming network.

The series follows the Devil, Lucifer Morningstar (played by Tom Ellis) as he abandons Hell to consult for the LAPD, alongside Detective Chloe Decker (Lauren German).

His brother Amenadiel (D. B. Woodside) and God (Dennis Haysbert) also get involved in Lucifer’s wild antics.

However, after the season five finale, A Chance at a Happy Ending, a dramatic shift is in store for everyone’s favourite devil.

The season five finale saw Lucifer finally have his emotional reunion with his dad, and Michael attempting to manipulate Lucifer to return to Hell with Chloe.

It was also revealed that Lucifer’s brother Michael orchestrated the murder of Chloe’s ex-partner Dan Espinoza (Kevin Alejandro).

Lucifer then makes a great sacrifice in order to save Chloe and to stop Michael, therefore, his selfless act turns Lucifer into the new God.

Co-showrunner Joe Henderson discussed the finale with TV Guide and how season five became the show’s “big, crazy spectacle season”.

Co-showrunner Ildy Modrovich also added that it was always the intention for Lucifer to put himself at risk to save Chloe.

In discussing Lucifer as God for the next season, Henderson said that it is “exactly what we will explore in Season 6.

“Lucifer’s greatest enemy is always himself.”

Modrovich also teased that becoming God is “more than Lucifer bargains for, I’ll say that”.

Henderson and Modrovich also detailed their reasoning for killing off Dan in the penultimate episode of season 5B.

“The choice to kill off a beloved character is obviously a big one,” Modrovich told Entertainment Weekly, and said that she wanted Dan’s death to “have a ripple effect”.

“We wanted to have a reason for it and a reason for all our characters to grow, but especially Lucifer.”

Henderson continued by adding that Kevin Alejandro had turned Dan into “one of the hearts of the show,’ and to kill off the character “affects everyone in such a meaningful way that it just felt necessary to explore.”

In another interview with Entertainment Tonight, actor Woodside revealed that season five is “absolutely” the most emotional season of Lucifer thus far.

After the emotional finale cliffhanger, Woodside told fans to “keep the faith” and confirmed that a sixth season is definitely on its way.

Woodside also teased that Amenadiel will find love in season six, and that it happens “in a very different way”.

“I think it’s going to make them very, very happy,” Woodside continued, adding that his new love will “shock the fans”.

After the shocking finale, there will be plenty to explore in season six, and fans will have a lot of surprises to look forward to.

All seasons of Lucifer are available on Netflix.
