MICHAEL Douglas' troubled son has praised his famous family for "never giving up" while he was in jail and admits they got him through his "darkest days".
Cameron Douglas, 39, who was released from prison in August 2016 after serving seven years for drug offences, has now vowed to make them proud.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, he said: "My family never gave up on me, not for one second."
Cameron, who is the only child of Michael's marriage to ex-wife Diandra, would receive regular jail visits from his dad as well as his second wife Catherine Zeta Jones.
They would also bring his half brother Dylan, 17, and half sister Carys, 14, to see him in prison.
Of his stepmother, he told the newspaper: "She never gives up on anything and she didn’t quit on me. The love of my family got me through my darkest days."
After his parents split in 1995, Cameron found himself being passed between their respective homes and between nannies.
By the age of 16, he was a "fully fledged drug addict" and had been expelled from boarding school for selling marijuana.
He dropped out of school at 17 to pursue a career as a DJ – but admits it only encouraged his growing cocaine and heroin use.
Cameron was first sent to prison for five years for possession of heroin and methamphetamine.
But he later had his jail term increased when he was found in possession of prescription pill Xanax, which he had smuggled in by his former lawyer.
He then tried to sell some of the tablets to other inmates but was charged with possession and dealing behind bars and sentenced to another four and a half years.
Two of those were in solitary confinement and visitors were banned, which was something Michael later criticised during his 2013 Emmys acceptance speech.
Cameron also revealed his grandfather Kirk Douglas would visit him behind bars and ask "how many fights have you been in?"
After his release, he and Brazilian girlfriend Viviane Thibes – who stuck by him throughout his incarceration – welcomed a baby daughter named Lua – which is Portuguese for moon.
