My Mum, Your Dad stars Roger Hawes and Janey Smith found true love on the first series of the show back in the summer.
And when we catch up with them both months later, they're still going strong as they prepare to spend their first Christmas together.
The process of filming the ITV show fronted by Davina McCall was a tricky one for both of them. It was the first time Roger, 59, had dipped his toe into the dating pool after losing his wife, Joanne, 18 months before filming the show. While Janey, 48, admits she’d given up on love after a string of failed relationships.
But the process worked so well for the two of them – who are splitting their time between his house in Derbyshire and hers in West Sussex – they have barely spent a day apart since. And now a potential wedding could be on the cards.
My Mum Your Dad's Roger and Janey's first Christmas: 'We want to live happily ever after'
“I would definitely get married again,” Roger tells us for our festive photoshoot. “I enjoyed being married, it worked for me.”
And Janey is clearly on the same page, saying, “I’ve never been married so I would, yeah. I think most girls dream of that, don’t they? I always thought I would be married by Jess’s age.”
The couple, who have recently been announced as part of the This Morning team presenting travel features, will be spending Boxing Day together this year surrounded by their children – including Roger’s 29 year old daughter Jess and Janey’s 20 year old son William who appeared on the show with them.
“I’m excited for Will to meet everyone and for everyone to meet Will,” beams Jess.
William is happy to see his mum happy with Roger, while Jess explains the new couple are like the same person split into two.
“It’s mad how well-suited they are and how quickly Janey fitted in with all of us,” she says. “And the difference in Dad is unreal.”
Jess also reveals she has her “dad back” and that he has a new spring in his step, but she’s also been uplifted by those who watched the show and have reached out to her with their own personal stories.
“It’s been lovely – the second nicest thing I’ve got out of it,” she says. “I was a little bit nervous everyone was going to think, ‘She’s just a sob story.’ But people are saying, ‘Wow, you really helped me.’
“One person messaged and said, ‘I’ve not been speaking to my dad for weeks because he’s met someone new after my mum passed away and watching this has made me reach out to him.’ It’s like, ‘Wow, that’s genuinely made a difference to someone.’”
