Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson) and Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant) are given reason to be hopeful in Emmerdale next week, when they see the police van leaving the village.
The residents come to believe that this must indicate that the investigation is at an end, which would suggest that the police have apprehended murderous Meena Jutla (Paige Sandhu).
Desperate for answers, Liam and Leyla Harding (Roxy Shahidi) approach DS Rogers, asking him if they have, in fact, caught the killer.
But unfortunately, they have not. In fact, the detective has bad news for them all.
‘We’ve received information that [Meena] might have left the country’,’ he says.
Liam and Jacob are horrified.
Vinny (Bradley Johnson), meanwhile, wants to know what the supposed new evidence is, if it doesn’t concern Meena.
He’s hopeful that it’s in relation to Liv Flaherty (Isobel Steele), who is currently in prison for the murder of Ben Tucker (Simon Lennon), a crime which was committed by Meena.
Jacob, however, berates Vinny for asking questions about girlfriend Liv when his own girlfriend Leanna (Mimi Slinger) is dead as a result of Meena’s actions.
Lydia (Karen Blick) asks Jacob kindly not to take his frustrations out on Vinny, but Jacob demands that everyone leave him alone, as he storms off in tears.
Has Meena really left the country? Will she get away with four murders?
Emmerdale airs these scenes on Thursday January 27 at 7pm on ITV.
