'Only Murders in the Building' Season 2: Everything We Know so Far

Another murder in the building means another season coming soon. Back in September, Hulu officially renewed Only Murders in the Building for season 2, giving fans more time to spend with beloved trio Selena Gomez, Steve Martin, and Martin Short. While we wait for more updates on the new episodes, here’s what we know about season 2 so far.

Is there a release date for ‘Only Murders in the Building’ Season 2?

Only Murders in the Building Season 2 does not yet have an official release date. However, filming began in early December. If production has a quick turnaround, then season 2 could drop on Hulu sometime in mid-2022.

In the meantime, fans who crave Only Murders updates can keep an eye on the cast members’ social media. Series co-creator and star Steve Martin (who plays Charles), in particular, has generously shared plenty of behind-the-scenes shots with Selena Gomez (Mabel) and Martin Short (Oliver). Gomez has also taken to TikTok to share a few videos of herself and her co-stars. Hopefully, one of the stars will drop a juicy behind-the-scenes teaser soon.

‘Only Murders in the Building’ Season 2 cast includes returning and new faces

It wouldn’t be Only Murders in the Building without the podcast-hosting trio, so Martin, Short, and Gomez will return for the new season. Additionally, fans can also expect the return of many guest stars, including Tina Fey (podcast host Cinda Canning) and Jane Lynch (Brazzos stunt double Sazz Pataki).

Season 2 will also see several new faces joining the Only Murders cast. For starters, Cara Delevigne was announced in December, set to play a character named Alice. She’s described as an “art world insider” who finds herself entangled in the Arconia’s new mystery.

Later, Martin shared a photo with My Big Fat Greek Wedding star Andrea Martin and Annie star Zoe Colletti, as seen above. Short also teased that he worked on a scene with Shirley MacLaine and Amy Schumer.

Finally, in February 2022, Deadline reported that Michael Rapaport will have a recurring role in season 2. He’ll play Detective Kreps, who will investigate the murder that occurred in the season 1 finale.

The new episodes will focus on Bunny’s murder and how it relates to the trio

When last we left the story, Charles and Oliver walked in on Mabel covered in blood and kneeling beside the dead body of Arconia apartment manager Bunny (Jayne Houdyshell). She insisted that the situation wasn’t what it looked like. However, police quickly arrived on the scene and arrested the trio. What does this mean for the new season?

According to Only Murders co-creator John Hoffman, Mabel, Oliver, and Charles will have to look back at their personal relationships with Bunny.

“Mabel said some unkind things about her outside of the Arconia. Oliver had a long history of conflict with Bunny. And Charles was deeply offended at the idea of being evicted by her after 30 years,” Hoffman told Deadline. “There’s all that plus their connection to true crime and their respective histories which we will learn more about. There’s a lot there we start peeling back that’s built around what happened at the end of season 1 and leading into 2.”

Only Murders in the Building Season 1 is now streaming on Hulu. Stay tuned to Showbiz Cheat Sheet for updates on season 2.
