The upcoming season of Outlander is set to arrive in early 2022, and will be based on Diana Gabaldon’s epic novel, A Breath of Snow and Ashes. Ahead of the historical drama’s return to Starz and Amazon Prime, some revealing stills have been shared on Instagram.
Diehard Outlander fans have spotted a pivotal moment from the original novels in first-look images from the upcoming sixth season.
A recent announcement from Starz has finally confirmed Jamie (played by Sam Heughan) and Claire Fraser (Caitriona Balfe) will be returning to screens at the start of next year.
With ‘Droughtlander’ not quite at an end, booklovers still have Diana Gabaldon’s ninth book in the series, Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone, to look forward to this November.
Meanwhile, the sneak peek at season six, based on A Breath of Snow and Ashes, has revealed a tense moment for Roger Mackenzie (Richard Rankin).
The new look at Roger reveals the time-travelling husband of Brianna Fraser (Sophie Skelton) emerging from a river and clutching a swaddled baby.
Perceptive fans realised this will probably be the introduction of Henri-Christian, a major character from the three most recent Outlander novels.
In the books, Henri-Christian Fraser is the fourth child of Fergus (César Domboy) and Marsali (Lauren Lyle).
Sadly, the boy was born with dwarfism, and in the late 1700s, his condition was seen as a punishment for his parents’ sin by some residents of Fraser’s Ridge.

One of the most heart-wrenching chapters in Gabaldon’s novel sees a group of local boys place the baby in a basket and cast him downriver.
Thankfully, Roger comes to his rescue and Henri-Christian is mercifully pulled from the river alive and well.
Now the first images of season six have emerged, it’s clear the TV adaptation will be adapting one of the most pivotal moments of A Breath of Snow and Ashes.
Fans flocked to the comments once they made the connection to build hype for Henri-Christian’s small screen debut.

On Instagram, one viewer commented: “OMG!! I desperately wanted the scene with Roger saving the baby… you’ve made my day!”
Some Outlander aficionados also questioned whether the baby could be Roger and Brianna’s second child Amanda, though these theories were quickly dismissed.
A second viewer explained: “It could be Amanda, but Roger does save Henri-Christian when the mean kids want to see if he floats.”
On Reddit, one user said: “The promotion photos though, Henri-Christian is here guys.”
To which another excited fan replied: “I noticed that! I’m so glad… I really love that scene in the books, Roger going all mama-bear.”
Not only were the first images from Outlander’s upcoming instalment released, Starz have also confirmed that filming will be coming to an end later this week.
While the truncated sixth season will only consist of eight episodes, showrunner Matthew B Roberts also assured fans there’s still lots more Outlander content to look forward to.
Once the next outing wraps up on Starz, the already confirmed season seven will run for a whopping 16 episodes, more than making up for 2022’s limited run.
Outlander season 6 will premiere in early 2022 on Starz and Amazon Prime Video.
