Jamie Fraser star Sam Heughan has hinted more trouble will be coming for the Frasers in the next season of Outlander following the latest casting news. In addition to several newcomers joining Starz’s popular fantasy series, long-time fans of the show will spot some of their favourites who’ll be reuniting with Jamie and Claire (played by Caitriona Balfe) next season.
Starz has made some surprising casting announcements ahead of the highly anticipated release of Outlander season seven.
The latest official announcement of the series has confirmed Graham McTavish and Steven Cree will be back as the Frasers’ allies Dougal Mackenzie and Ian Murray Sr, respectively.
Moreover, Claire’s jealous rival Laoghaire (Nell Hudson) will return, as well as recurring villain Geillis Duncan (Lotte Verbeek), who has been absent from the series since season three.
Laoghaire’s daughter Joan will also be returning, portrayed once again by Layla Burns.

Plus, newcomers Chris Fulton, Diarmaid Murtagh, Gloria Obianyo and Rod Hallett will be rounding out the supporting cast.
Finally, Andrew Whipp will make an appearance as Jamie’s father Brian, who is set to feature in his own prequel based on the lives of the Highlander’s parents.
Lead actor Sam teased the cast update could be bad news for the Ridge if Laoghaire and Geillis catch wind of the Frasers’ whereabouts.
“Uh oh I see trouble… in many forms,” he tweeted. “Welcome all!”
He may also be referring to his infamous friendship with Graham, with whom he has since launched their own travel show, Men in Kilts.
Outlander’s official Twitter page replied to Sam: “@MrStevenCree, @grahammctavish, and @SamHeughan all on one set again… Trouble? Absolutely not.”
In addition to the new and returning cast, many fans were disappointed to see fan-favourite Laura Donnelly recast for the role of Jenny Murray, as the actress is busy filming The Nevers.
The role of Jamie’s sister will now be portrayed by Kristin Atherton, known for Doctors, Waterloo Road and frequent theatre appearances.

Following the announcement from Starz, many excited fans took to the message boards in eager anticipation of what the likes of Dougal and Geillis returning could mean for next season.
Redditor lllexj said: “I’ve been a silent Geillis fan for a bit, so I’m here for it.
“I hope whatever they do with her fits in with the story. Flashback scenes with Dougal maybe?”
Intrigued viewer irishprincess2002 added: “Okay so I’m wondering why Dougal and Geillis are back but I’m sure we will find out!”
And LordPr0castinator exclaimed: “I’m soooooooo excited to see Geillis Duncan again!” (sic)
With filming for season seven making good progress, it hopefully won’t be long before fans get their first glimpse at Geillis and Dougal.
Whatever their return means for the Ridge, there’s bound to be more trials and tribulations coming the Frasers’ way when the swoon-worthy Scottish fantasy returns from its break next year.
Outlander seasons 1-6 are available on Starz in the USA and Lionsgate+ via Amazon Prime Video in the UK.
