Phil dies in huge EastEnders tragedy as a fire rages through the Square?

Phil Mitchell’s (Steve McFadden) life is on the line in EastEnders following tonight’s events, as he lay unconscious on the floor of his home while a fire started nearby.

The stalwart was attacked by Shirley Carter (Linda Henry) several moments earlier, as she struck him across the back of the head with a baseball bat.

Her reason for doing so? Because she holds Phil personally responsible for Tina’s (Luisa Bradshaw-White) disappearance, of course.

Tina, as viewers know, vanished without a trace over the festive season last year, after she was named prime suspect in the attack on Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt).

Gray Atkins (Toby-Alexander Smith) killed her in disturbing scenes, before covering up the murder.

Shirley, however, believes her sister is still alive, and therefore – given that it was Phil who actually assaulted Ian – she decided to seek ‘retribution’.

Phil laughed at her, which only made matters worse, as she headed to the cupboard under the stairs to retrieve a baseball bat, which she used to bludgeon her nemesis with!

Tommy Moon (Sonny Kendall), meanwhile, heard the commotion upstairs, and it became apparent that he was keeping missing Scarlett Butcher (Tabitha Byron) in his room!

Scarlett had vanished during last night’s outing of the soap.

The kids headed downstairs and were horrified to find Phil unconscious on the floor, but before they could take action, Janine entered, having had her suspicions that her daughter was hiding out with Tommy.

Scarlett pleaded with Janine to help Phil, but Janine refused, much to Scarlett’s dismay. A chase ensued, and Janine ended up with Scarlett’s jumper in her hands, which she threw on the hob.

Little did she know that Phil had been cooking moments earlier, and the garment soon caught fire.

Phil, meanwhile, remained motionless on the floor, as the smoke engulfed the kitchen. Will he perish in the blaze?

Will Janine, Tommy and Scarlett for that matter?
