Last week viewers watched as the first celebrity, Kaye Adams, was eliminated from the competition. This Saturday the remaining stars in the competition will be tackling Movie Week as they not only have to nail their routines but also embody the character from their film. Strictly star Fleur East said the song she and partner Vito Coppola will be dancing to is very poignant.

Series 20 of the BBC One show is in full swing after the public vote saw Kaye Adams and Matt Goss in the bottom two last weekend.

With the Loose Women panellist being the first star eliminated from the show, the 14 remaining competitors started their gruelling training as they prepare themselves for Movie Week.

Singer Fleur East and her Strictly professional dancer Vito Coppola will be tackling the American Smooth to the song Part Of Your World from the Disney film The Little Mermaid.

Since revealing her routine, the star has opened up about why the song she’ll be dancing to means so much to her.

When she takes to the dancefloor on Saturday’s live show, Fleur will be in the role of Princess Ariel as Vito embodies Prince Eric.

Speaking on the Hits Radio Breakfast show, the star said: “At the start of my Strictly journey I gave a whole list of songs to the team and just slipped in this one and mentioned that The Little Mermaid was my favourite movie.

“I’m guessing they looked at that and here we are! I’m so excited. This is genuinely my favourite Disney movie of all time and I know this song inside out and back to front.

“I’ve sung it since the age of seven, word for word.”

With the live-action movie of Little Mermaid coming out next year, with the trailer recently released, hosts James and Matt added that it made the routine even more exciting.

However, after the first glimpse of the anticipated movie showed Ariel being played by Halle Bailey, it divided fans as some were outraged a woman of a different ethnicity was playing the fictional character.

Saying that representation is so important, Fleur added: “Weirdly I’m going to play Ariel before Halle gets to play her.

“It’s going to be really, really special. Although I don’t know how I’m going to dance in my fins! I’ll leave that up to the costume team – they are amazing and I’m sure they’ll work it out….”

When appearing on the spin-off show Matt Goss and James Bye revealed the dances they’ll be tackling this week.

Matt and his partner Nadiya Bychkova will be doing the Viennese waltz to the song Hold My Hand From the movie Top Gun: Maverick.

While James and his partner Amy Dowden will be doing the cha cha cha to the song Hooked on a Feeling from Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy.

It is not just Fleur’s song this week that means a lot to her as Matt shared with host Rylan Clark his special connection.

He explained that his grandfather was a gunner in the war, commenting: “For me, I’ve just connected to my granddad and the love of his life my grandma Wyn, and before he died he said, ‘I’m going to go and see Wyn.’

“So I’m just going to channel that love affair that connected me between my grandad and my nana.

“It’s already proving because of her choreography that it’s an emotional dance and I feel very connected to it already, I just want to do it for my gramps.”
