Fennec Shand (played by Ming-Na Wen) was introduced as an infrequent companion to the titular Mandalorian in the first season of the first ever live action Star Wars series. After playing a major role in the second instalment on Disney+, the star isn’t sure if her character will be returning for season three.

Ming-Na Wen has provided some new insight into the upcoming release of The Mandalorian’s third season.

Speaking to Digital Spy, the actress admitted she wasn’t sure if she’ll be making another appearance in the next outing.

When asked about the status of the show, she confessed: “I don’t know. You’ll probably find out before I do.

“You guys have your feelers out on everything. I mean, come on, I didn’t even know I was shooting The Book of Boba Fett, so you’re asking the wrong person.”

Starring as the fearless mercenary Fennec Shand, Wen was initially introduced as an adversary to Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) before joining forces with the Mandalorian hero in season two.

After the Star Wars spin-off’s follow-up came to a bombastic end last year, Shand will be joining the classic character Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison) in his own series, The Book of Boba Fett.

However, Wen also reiterated that nothing official can be revealed until Disney’s higher-ups give the all clear.

She went on: “We’re so secretive about everything, right?”

“We don’t call the shows, the shows. The contracts are always under different names. The show is under different names.”

Wen continued and explained she initially thought she had signed on to a third season of The Mandalorian as a series regular.

As The Book of Boba Fett was announced in a post-credits stinger at the end of the season two finale, it was widely assumed the new spin-off would take the place of the adventures of Djarin and Grogu/Baby Yoda.

Wen explained that even the scripts of the new show were marked as if they were taking place during the third season of The Mandalorian.

She revealed the uncertainty was also present on set, as series lead Temuera Morrison and director Robert Rodriguez also thought they were working on ‘Mando 3’.

“When the crew and the cast found out, they were dying,” she recalled.

“It was so crazy. So, yeah, it was wonderful to finally discover that I was shooting The Book of Boba Fett.

“They call it The Mandalorian 2.5, in a way. So I wasn’t all wrong.”

Thankfully, Disney and series creator Jon Favreau quickly cleared up the confusion by confirming The Mandalorian will eventually be back, though production may take a little longer this time round.

Although she’s unsure of the The Mandalorian’s upcoming schedule, Wen will definitely be back on screens sooner rather than later.

The Book of Boba Fett will be premiering on Disney+ in December this year, and it seems Fennec Shand will be playing a major role in every episode of the upcoming series.

The Mandalorian seasons 1 and 2 are available to stream on Disney+.
