The Pioneer Woman star Ree Drummond enjoys watching movies and relaxing at home. Drummond says her husband, Ladd Drummond, tells her she has a tendency to watch what he describes as “cheatin’ movies.” The Food Network star explains the conversation she and Ladd had about her viewing habits.
How Ree and Ladd Drummond spend their down time
Ree and Ladd enjoy staying home and watching movies together. This is one of their favorite things to do on the weekends. In Frontier Follies, Ree says their love of movies is one of the things that drew them to each other.
One movie that reminds Ree of Ladd is West Side Story. She says in her book Black Heels to Tractor Wheels that when she first met Ladd, she felt like she was in a scene from the movie. She compared herself and Ladd to Maria and Tony. She says their first meeting was like the scene where the room blurred during the dance and Tony and Maria saw each other for the first time across a crowd.
Another movie that reminds Ree of Ladd is North by Northwest. In her book, Ree says Ladd’s silvery gray hair gave her visions of Cary Grant when he was in this movie.
Ree Drummond watches ‘cheatin’ movies’ according to Ladd
Although they like a lot of the same movies, Ree says there is one genre they don’t agree on. In her book Frontier Follies, she says Ladd brought it to her attention that she seems to watch a lot of movies about cheating. Most of the films she’s drawn to have a common theme where a relationship becomes compromised due to infidelity.
According to Ree, a “cheatin’ movie” is a film where infidelity is glorified. The Food Network star makes it clear that she doesn’t purposely go out of her way to watch these kinds of movies. She also says she doesn’t encourage cheating, and she has never cheated on Ladd. It’s just a coincidence that her favorite films tend to focus on the subject of cheating.
For Ree, the allure of these types of movies is all about the writing, cinematography, and acting. She joked that if Ladd continues to give her a hard time about watching movies about cheating, she’s going to start bothering him about the movies he watches. According to her, most of the films he likes are about car theft. She said she could get him back by calling them “stealin’ movies.”
Some of Ree’s favorite movies that happen to be about cheating include The Age of Innocence; Cousins; Same Time, Next Year; and Violets are Blue.
This movie reminds ‘The Pioneer Woman’ of Nan Drummond
Ree says there’s one movie in this genre that makes her very emotional. Whenever she sees the film Hope Floats, starring Sandra Bullock and Harry Connick Jr., she thinks about her late mother-in-law, Nan. Ree says she and Nan watched it together. Now, whenever Ree catches this movie on TV, she can’t help but think of her.
