The Serpent's Jenna Coleman reveals biggest regret from BBC finale – and the bizarre item she pinched from set

THE Serpent's Jenna Coleman has revealed her biggest regret from the BBC finale – and the bizarre item she pinched from set.

The 34-year-old actress played Marie-Andrée Leclerc, the lover and accomplice of real life serial killer Charles Sobhraj in the eight-part BBC drama, which concluded on Sunday night.

The finale saw the couple finally arrested after they had murdered dozens of young backpackers in Thailand and Nepal in the 1970s.

The drama revealed Marie died of ovarian cancer at the age of just 38, eight years after their arrest, while Charles served time in prison before living as a free man in France before being imprisoned once again after returning to Nepal in 2003.

Filming mainly took place in Bangkok, and the cast were all kitted out in 1970s clothing, and Jenna has shared her regret at not keeping any of the garments once shooting had finished.

In fact, she ended up bringing a random prop from set, as she told Table Manners with Jessie Ware: "I really messed up here because [co-star} Tahar [Rahim], all of his suits were like tailored and all the flares so he took everything home with him.

“He took his tailored shirts, glasses, because it was all, so many of the costumes were made there in the workshop.

“And I managed to come home with a pencil sharpener and also a Thai statue that I stole from the set but left all of my costumes and didn’t bring a single thing.”

She added: “Nobody wanted anything actually. Everyone was like ‘what are you doing?’ and I was like ‘oooh I don’t know, I just like to keep a momento’ you know as we were like finishing on set like ‘yeah, take the pencil sharpener if you want it, it’s yours.’

“I didn’t. It feels like wearing school uniform sometimes to me. Costumes are a bit like school uniform.”

Viewers were left annoyed by the fact Charles got away with so many murders, with the drama revealing he only served time for three, when his real victim total was potentially nearer 30.

Taking to Twitter, one wrote: "So sad for the many who never made it back home I’m disgusted this man has never really been punished. What stupid international law I’m sure the India now would’ve let him be sent back to Thailand."

Another added: "Just finished #TheSerpent one of the most sinister story’s I’ve come across. Wishing the victims, and their families, that never got true justice, peace."
