Strictly Come Dancing fans have been impressed with TV chef Tilly Ramsay’s progress on BBC One hit Strictly Come Dancing. Gordon Ramsay’s daughter was matched with Nikita Kuzmin, who only joined the glitzy dance competition this year. Professional dancer Gary Edwards has suggested Nikita was not the right match for Tilly, and it could have repercussions.
Strictly fans were sad to see Tilly in the bottom two last week after her Quickstep left the judges beaming.
She went up against Dragons’ Den star Sara Davies in the dance-off and was unanimously saved by the panel.
The young TV personality took to Instagram to say how it was “not easy being in the dance-off”.
Dancing With The Stars expert Gary Edwards said her match with Nikita may be holding her back.
Speaking to Express.co.uk he said: “I really focussed on Tilly and I watched it back three times. Tilly actually gets a rough ride.
“I don’t think that’s the right partner match for her. I think that is working against her.
“My notes are ‘fun and cute’, ‘super energy’, ‘super enjoyable’, ‘footwork and the use of the ankle are biggest weak points’.
“‘Very underestimated, I’d have gone an eight’. I don’t think it was on purpose but the partner match – if you imagined her dancing with Giovanni [Pernice], or her dancing with Aljaz [Škorjanec] it would be stupendous in my opinion.
“And with Nikita, I just don’t think the match is there. Nikita with Rose [Ayling-Ellis], that would have worked.”
The professional dancer went on to praise Tilly for her level of skill and suggested she was yet to reach her full potential.
He added: “When she actually uses her legs she is super powerful.
“And again I judge people, not beginners, that would struggle to take on Tilly.
“When she actually lands a good power drive away from a standing foot she is actually very impressive and very underestimated, probably even by me.
“I’ve rewatched it again and again and I thought ‘you know what? The potential is there’.
“She just needs to break through and just be a little bit more explosive, she is just not telling anybody how good she is when she dances and when she walks on the floor, and in interviews afterwards.
“She is just a great dancer, if it wasn’t for her ankles being a bit weak, which is very common for beginners, she would be a force to be reckoned with for sure.
“I think with Nikita it’s not a good partner match for me and that’s what’s going to stop her going further I think.”
Tilly has, however, only ever had praise for her professional partner and they have built a close bond so far.
She took to Instagram to share her thoughts after the latest dance-off, saying: “Wow another extraordinary week on strictly!!
“It’s definitely not easy being in the dance off, especially when it’s against the amazing @saradaviescc and @aljazskorjanec who I have absolutely loved becoming friends with and watching their incredible dances each week.
“Very grateful to be given another opportunity to learn and take part in one of my favourite weeks ever, musical week!!
“Excited for the hard work and new challenges this week brings with @nikita__kuzmin @bbcstrictly.”
This weekend the pair will be dancing their Couple’s Choice routine to Revolting Children from Matilda.
She said she was just 10 years old when she went to see Matilda with her mum for the first time and it was a “dream come true” to be dancing to one of the songs.
Strictly Come Dancing returns to BBC One on Saturday at 6.35pm.
