Tom was eventually released and later worked as a preacher and continued to preach the word of God.

He also said he wrote the obituary, which brought Brianna MacKenzie (Sophie Skelton) and Roger (Richard Rankin) back to the past.

The obituary documented the fire at Fraser’s Ridge and wrongly reported everyone had died.

This article meant Claire and Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) could obtain new identities and start a new life in Scotland should they wish to do so.

Tom was still very much in unrequited love with Claire but knew nothing would happen between them.

The obituary is important to Outlander and will come into play with the recent explosion in episode two of season seven.

The instalment titled The Happiest Place on Earth ended with Wendigo Donner (Brennan Martin) and his henchmen inadvertently causing an explosion at Fraser’s Ridge in their search for gem stones.

Viewers were left on a huge cliffhanger as a huge explosion occurred at the Ridge with the house going up in flames.

Fans will have to tune in next week to see what happens and the fate of all the characters.
