Strictly Come Dancing’s Tyler West has opened up on his relationship with Tony Adams following his exit from the show. The DJ revealed he struck up a close bond with the former footballer during rehearsals for the BBC competition. He told Rylan Clark on It Takes Two about his friendship with the injured star.

On Tuesday’s edition of the Strictly spin-off programme, Tyler reflected on a dramatic night on Sunday’s results show.

He told Rylan: “Thankfully, all we cared about was that ‘Tone’ was alright.

“I love Tony, he was like my bestie in the competition and we had our naps. I don’t know who I am going to nap with now!”

The presenter replied: “I will offer, I have offered before and you’ve not taken me up on it Ty!”

Alongside professional dance partner Dianne Buswell he joked: “You weren’t there at the right time, it’s the lunch break Ry!”

The pair also opened up on the sofas of the BBC Two show about their emotions being in the bottom two of the leaderboard.

Rylan asked: “You did get that red light treatment. Ty, the first time for you, getting that red light shone on you, what was going through your mind?”

The celebrity hopeful replied: “Do you know what? When we finished the performance I was just like, ‘Ah we loved it’.”

He added: “It felt so wicked to do that on a Saturday night, I was like, alright, it just gives us another chance for us to show it again.

Tyler also remarked how he wanted, “To just give it our all like we did the first time round.”

With Rylan nodding in agreement, the Kiss presenter declared: “Because you can only do your best.”

Tyler dodged a dance-off against his pal Tony after the former footballer withdrew himself from the glitzy competition due to injury.

The dancing duo of Tyler and Dianne have consistently scored highly in the battle for the Glitterball trophy.

Last week, their Paso Doble to Unstoppable by E.S. Posthumus scored them a commendable 31 out of a possible 40 points.

This week the couple will dance the Salsa to a KC & The Sunshine Band Megamix while performing in the iconic Blackpool Tower.

Despite consistently scoring higher than his ‘bestie’ Tony and his partner Katya Jones, one judge hinted it was not a foregone conclusion who would bow out.

Shirley Ballas reacted to Tony’s exit at this week’s TV Choice Awards.

The head judge remarked to The Mirror: “We didn’t get to see the dance-off but I know he would have gone with it 100 percent and if the other couple made mistakes, who knows?”

She also remained tight-lipped on her views on Tony’s run on the show.

Shirley declared: “It’s not my job to say whether it was his time to go – the audience voted, the public voted. They put him in the bottom two.”

Strictly Come Dancing continues on Saturday at 7:45pm on BBC One.
